Vert Hardtop

has a hardtop been manufacturered for the masses or are the ones i am seeing all custom made?

Brian Barna 12-20-05 08:32 AM

I have never seen one. I think that I would be interested in one.

Ronald E. Jacques 12-20-05 08:38 AM

I've never seen one either.

Now, I am usually the first one to say "It's your car, do what you want" but in this case, I don't mind saying that I don't see the point. Alot of folks tell me the weight reduction stuff I do to my vert is a waste of time because, "if I want a light car, I should get a coupe". But I want a light VERT. However, if you are going to just plain make your vert INTO a coupe, then I also think that you should just get a coupe. I know that you could take the hard top on and off when you feel like it, but what a PITA. I leave my top down for the whole summer because I can garage it at night, but at least if it starts raining and I'm fifty miles away I can put it back up, something you can't do when it's leaning against the wall back in the garage.

I will say again, it's your car, so have fun with it. But the only benefit I can imagine is that basically nobody else will have one. If that's worth the expense and headache, then go for it. If you do, post pics!

I'd make it like a permanent hardtop if i did it. It would probably be cheaper/easier. Then you'd have a true FC coupe, since all the others are secretly hatches.

classicauto 12-20-05 09:34 AM

actually technically speaking a vert style body would be a sedan.....as sedans have trunk lids....

nit-pickin' much!!lol

Tiderfish 12-20-05 09:37 AM

Anyone have any pics of this Vert with a hard top?

Cobra_R 12-20-05 02:33 PM

i remember awhile back on this forum someone posted a picture of a vert that had a mold of its softtop made from somesort of medal or fiberglass or something. so basically it looked just like a vert, except that instead of it having a softtop, it was a hardtop, the hardtop and softtop looked exactly the same. it looked really horrible and was kinda stupid.

soulja77 12-20-05 08:04 PM

i have seen a couple with fiberglass hardtops like the miatas...

in california

Weight reduction vert doesn't look good w/ top down, does it? I know "who cares!" but I didn't open my top this summer (or maybe only once) because I just didn't feel confortable doing it. Car is noisy (no tar, no carpet, RB exhaust) and it just looks crap w/o stereo, panels, etc etc.

Wow that looks like ass! I kinda like the way my vert looks with the top down

It looks no better or worse than the stock top. If I lived in a seasonally rainy area, I'd probably do something similar.

MaxDuo 12-22-05 09:36 PM

This reminds me, I got my RX7 inspected yesterday and they put it down as a sedan on the sheet O_o

SexInDaRex 12-22-05 10:22 PM

That is ugly as hell. I would have at least made it leveled on the top and left it black.

Ronald E. Jacques 12-23-05 07:57 AM

Except for my seats being different and there is no stereo, the 300 plus pounds I've removed hasn't altered the appearance of the inside of the car at all.

And that is truly ugly. It is less of a "hard top" and more like a "fake" soft top.

What difference does living in a rainy place make? When the top is up it doesn't let the rain in, you know, unless it falling apart!

Ummm...sedans have 4 seats, coupes have 2...please don't call a 7 a sedan ever again. Thanks. :balls: :)

kiyoshi 12-23-05 11:52 AM

Hmm.... it's pretty ugly, because it's painted red???

MARTIN 12-23-05 12:01 PM

Thats fukin disgusting..... PLease do not post anymore of those pics..

p4nc7 12-23-05 12:05 PM

He needs to shape it more. =/

Tournapart 12-23-05 12:13 PM

its a good attempt but a few things like, the fact that they took the stock soft top off anf fiberglassed it up, they didnt realy form it well, and cmon, this isnt an S2000, the color match doesnt mix well considering the 'hard top' is of different materials, but all in all nice attempt, i dont see anyone else trying this so more power to you on the next attempt

Agent_D 12-23-05 01:45 PM

i like it, i'd buy one for my wifes vert, how much?? ;)

it doesnt look nasty like a rounded one would, like a miata hard top, that would just look odd with the FC's lines.

Agent_D 12-23-05 01:48 PM

oh btw, a sedan is a 4 door car with trunk, a coupe is 2 door with trunk, thats how ive seen it anyways.

Well, I agree that itll never look as good as the s2k. But the worst part of the vert, is having the top up. You just made the worst part of the car, permanent.

nah, the vert looks alot better than the coupe and ofcourse I'm not saying this to start a war :D BUT ITS TRUE!! J/K That guy put alot of work into his vert but DEFINITLY NOT ENOUGH, if he just added an extra 50lbs of fiberglass and resin to the area between the rails it would look a hell of alot better, reason be it'd be smoothed out. But If someone made a hardtop for the vert for $1500< I'm sure they would sell a boatload of 'em.

Alex6969 12-23-05 05:52 PM

yes that vert looks like it got beat with an ugly stick. I'm waiting for a coupe targa top ;)
