VDI question, help a brotha out.

hey i have a question about this VDI stuff, so try to help me out.

my VDI has never worked on my 91 GXL. i have the stock vacuum rack and all the solenoids, but i was under the conclusion that my VDI solenoid was dead (i had never felt any kind of power come on around 5500-8000 rpms) so i switched the lines from the blue solenoid (the one under the VDI solenoind) and nothing changed. so i took the VDI actuator off and it opens easily with several lbs of pressure (i think 5-7psi?) and the sleeve was nice and smooth and really easy to turn.
i am fuckin lost on the VDI stuff, can anyone help me out? i have a cone intake and i can really hear the 6pi opening at 4k so i know they are working smoothly as they should, but VDI has me totally lost.

I dont remember being able to feel it when it was working. If your car feels sluggish beyond 7K, its probably not working. You can unplug the solenoid, and drive the car, and see if it feels any different on the top end.

Read the VDI section of the FSM. You can test the solenoid to see if it's working. If the solenoid's OK, and manually applied pressure can operate the VDI actuator, then maybe the air pump pressure isn't getting to the actuator for some reason. Trace the vac lines to see. The VDI and 6PI systems are really simple so it shouldn't be too hard to work out what the problem is.

The easiest test is to accelerate in 1st at about half throttle. Let it slowly rev through 6k. Since you are holding back the power with the light throttle, the VDI kick is more noticable.

Mine suddenly quit (along with the aux ports) about 3 weeks ago.
I am still troubleshooting the ECU signals.

well, with my new intake i can hear my 6pi opening up right before 4k rpms, so thats fine. i checked my solenoids last night for 6pi and VDI and they both worked fine and clicked with 12v applied. the car pulls fine all the way to 8000, but had always read that the vdi makes a noticable power gain around 5500 rpms. maybe i've een wrong this whole time and its been working?

oh, and i tried the part throttle thing, doesnt work. i cant feel the vdi sleeve turn at part throttle around 5-6k.
