Vacuum line help UIM
 

I tried searching a bit, and most topics touched on alot of general emissions removal issues. I ended up getting a bit confused as to what is what, and I just need an answer that specifically addresses my problem (sorry, Im slow like that).

Anyway, I am in the process of putting the UIM back on, and there are 6 vac lines, 3 on each side of the UIM. They are a pain in the ass to get back into place, and I was wondering if I could just cap off/seal all of the lines instead of re-connecting. I am really not concerned about emissions, but will capping these lines cause any other issues? This is reffering to an 89 TII with no air pump.

You need to connect at least the two lines on the back side of the UIM that run down between the fuel injectors. If you have the rest of your emmissions removed then you can just cap the rest.

Yeah, my next step is to figure out exactly what emissions stuff is removed already (just got the car). My main concern is the lines that connect to the front of the UIM, space is tight and I don't know how I am going to be able to get them back on without removing all kinds of other stuff. The lines on the back may be a little easier to deal with. I'm just getting anxious to get it running again, its been laid up waiting for injectors for weeks now.

I am pretty sure just the air pump is removed, just to update.

I broke my shop light, can't see crap now, really frustrated. Guess it will wait for tomorrow. If anyone has any tips on getting those little POS lines back in place easily, I would love to know. Still not sure I want to block them off or not.

Are you trying to put the original lines back on? The 3 on the back are fairly easy. The 3 on the front are a little tougher but just loosen the alt bracket and let the alt drop itll make it alot easier.

Yeah, I'm having a heck of a time getting in there, and these little hoses are only 3" long. I'll quit whining now, time to go try again!

the larger of the three hoses on the front goes to the OMP injectors. you prolly want to keep that connected. oh, and one goes to the fuel pressure regulator. Keep that too. Oh, wait, did you say it's an S5? Then I dont' know what I'm talking about.

Since you have them off, why not just replace them anyway. They're prolly brittle as hell.

OK, got them back on, after much struggling. It was a bit easier once I had everything bolted on properly, I was trying to do it before I had everything bolted down, thinking it might give me more room. They are pretty brittle, so I will replace them soon, along with fuel lines, etc. I just wanted to get the injectors in there and see if it stops flooding (one was leaky).

Now I have a new problem, I broke something. There is a sensor on the TB, that has two very delicate metal contacts that go into a plug. I broke off one of those contacts!! Other than that, everything seems to be ready to go.

That's the air thermosensor. You'll get a CEL. Just to go the junkyard and grab one off any FC.

yep, it sure is, kinda what I figured but at least its not too serious.

The car is up and running again, woohoo!
