V mount intercoolers questions
 

To anyone out there with a V-mount i have a few questions:

1. The fan how did you get around this?

2. Radiator, where is it now? before after cooler/ in the same position?

3. bonnet, how did you get around this? ie, buy bonnet first, then make piping to match, or custom bonnet?

4. Rain, Do you have some kind of secret US government bonnet design so rain won't get in?

5. Front bar, do you have a scoop ot pick up all the air sucked into the front bar? ie a direct flowing pathway for air to get in an out no hastles?

1. The fan how did you get around this?
I used the electric fan off an aclaim that I got from a junk yard for $30

2. Radiator, where is it now? before after cooler/ in the same position?
The radiator now sits on top of the oil cooler and the intercooler right under the hood at about a 45 degree angle

3. bonnet, how did you get around this? ie, buy bonnet first, then make piping to match, or custom bonnet?
We made the v mount first then took an NA hook and cut it to match the location of the radiator.

4. Rain, Do you have some kind of secret US government bonnet design so rain won't get in?
No, the rain gets in but the hood is baffeled as such that it only falls on nonelectrial componets.

5. Front bar, do you have a scoop ot pick up all the air sucked into the front bar? ie a direct flowing pathway for air to get in an out no hastles?
No sure what you are refering to as the "Font bar". I didn't use any extra scoops in the front. We even retained the stock underbelly pan.

The 3rd gen guys do V-mounts much more than us 2nd gen guys, you can check out threads there.

I did a horizontal mount instead of V-mount.

yeah blue i saw your set up, nice and you highlighted all the good points about it.

thing is i'd prefer to "hide" my 'cooler for 3 reasons:
theives see a stock car
racers see a stock car
and i won't see a huge repair bill if i smash the damn thing

Question 5 is about the front bar/ spoiler/ air dam/ ground effect/ body kit/ aero kit

but do you have a like scoop, or reflector, so it directs the air into the intercooler?
Ridge: your setup seems to be fairly well thought out and CHEAP! which is good. Just wondering the time and $ put into your's? and a pic if it's not too much trouble ^_^

Total time and plaining was about two days, but i was toying with the idea well before. Money wise, i'm not finished with the hood yet and all the baffels so the i cant give you a total cost. I dont own a digital camera, i have a friend that has one, but she is in upper new york right now and wont be back till the weekend.

A picture is worth a thousand words, the intercooler is at an 20 degree angle or so under the rad with the oil cooler in the middle of the two. Here, i'm going to try and draw a picture

You really need a reverse inversion hood first of all...

nice setup first of all !
i was planning something similar, but to have the intercooler where your radiator sits. and have the baffles all the way from the front bar to the exit of the scoop. But i have no space for the radiator and fan!

what you might be able to do is get a reverseable sroudless fan to sit on top of your rad. instead of under it. Have it blow air down into it, that way you wont over heat at idle, but because its sroudless it shouldn't block much air from reaching the rad wile your driving. Dont know it if will work, but its an idea

It is better to have the radiator on top. Why you ask? If you are sitting at a light, and your intercooler is on top, the radiator below it is washing your intercooler with the heat piping off of it. heat does rise after all. As we know from many-a front mount application, the heat rising and piping up to the radiator will have little or no effect on its cooling performance, plus it will allow heat to rise off of your intercooler at low speeds, which will be sucked off of it by the radiator's fans mounted above.

presto. Keep the intercooler on the bottom.

have you got the pics yet??? I like to see a setup w/ v-mount so I can have a basis on how to set it up when I do my 13b-re this winter/spring.
