UV Leak detection dye + Rotary = ?
So, I got my 88 Vert for a song because of a major oil leak. I ran some UV leak detection dye and found a bad leak from the oil metering pump, or the lines for it. Now, I was sitting back thinking. Does having the dye in my oil affect anything like how my car runs? IS it dangerous at all? Since it's a rotary, the dye is going to go into the OMP, the oil injectors, and into the combustion chamber.
Am I worried over nothing? Or is this a realistic concern? |
It's designed to be run in piston engines, who also use some oil. You're fine, other than that nasty leak :)

I figure if it can run in piston engines without a big problem, I'd have to assume the rotary would be OK...Sucks for your leak, though. My OMP is the problem for me, as the inside of one of the OMP holes is stripped, causing it to leak slowly. Still gotta get off my ass and find a working replacement. At least it's not an S5, so my car isn't limpin'!

Yeah, I haven't verified if it's the pump or the lines. It looks like the lines so I'm going to build my own new ones per the fabulous guide in the FAQ section, but I think as long as I'm in there I'm going to re-seal the OMP. And as long as I'm in there I'm thinking about the Pineapple port inserts. I'll have the manifold half off, might as well go all the way.
