Upon start-up, Idle climbs and climbs and climbs

I had just taken off my UIM to check my Thermowax pellet. Found it was clogged and cleared it out. Put everything back together and started the car, and the idle starts at about 3500 and continues to climb. i started it three time and the same thing. Tightened the UIM, and other misc thangs, BAC, checked my hoses and such. Found nothing out of norm. Pulled off my UIM again and the gasket seemed ok,

Anyhow, I ordered all new gaskets for the BAC, UIM, and Thermowax thangy. But, before I put it all together, I wanted to get some reasurance that I have the Vac hoses correct.

As well, doesnt that sound like a huge vacum leak?

attached are pics of the vacum hoses. Are they in the right place? Does the check valve flow the right direction?

Thanks all,
Chris

sure that the cold start thermovalve was adjusted correctly??? if you remve it for testing, does the car still have the same problem???

I have not tried that. I removed the thermowax valve from a old TB, and put it on another that I had. Maybe that caused the problem. I will check this when I get home.

In anycase, wondering if the vac hoses are hooked up right as well.

How fast does it climb? Like a runaway throttle, or just a little bit every couple of seconds?

Pull the plugs off of the BAC and air bypass valves (if you got 'em) just in case one of 'em is stuck open...

it climbs so fast it is crazy, w/in seconds it hits 5K. Wayne, would you mind looking at the pics and tell me if the check valve flow is the right direction?

Thank you, I will try what you said as soon as I get it together.

oh yeah, everything is stock and there for cali emmisions.

update: """"or just a little bit every couple of seconds""""

^^^^^ more like you described right there...

Dude, my check valves have been off of my car for so long I can't remember squat. Which one are you talking about anyway? The double throttle one that runs under the TB to the dashpot looking damper thingy? Comes from one of the nipples on the thermo valve, right?

Heck, just pull the vac line off at the dashpot thingy and plug the nipple for now to see if that helps. If that works, turn the check valve around...

Make sure your throttle cable isn't stuck on something so it's keeping it at a higher rpm. Once I got in an accident and the cable that went to the cruise control was stuck against itself and made my throttle go up incredibly fast and stay around 5-6K. (Man it was easy to drift in that setup.)
