Upgrading/Rebuilding S4 Alt?!

I know a few ppl on the forum have gotten their alts rebuilt/upgraded to put out more amps. Can anyone tell me where they got this done? I called a few local places and they say they cant do it. I'm willing to ship one of my alts out to get it upgraded.....Thanks

You can upgrade to S5, little bit of simple rewire, this gets you from 70 to 80 amps.

You can upgrade to S6/FD, same little bit of rewire, pulley swap, gets you from 79 to 100 amps.

You can go custom rewind- This makes me uncomfortable, I think there is not much experience on this forum with this proceedure.

You can adapt a different alternator-I used a ford taurus to get a 130 amp alternator. Takes fabrication skills and rewind as above. Search for '130 amp alternator' to find my thread on the subject.

You can use a Ford Tempo 3G rewind, about $180, full 130 amps bolt on with the same rewire as the S5 and S6 alts. This is a great, easy option. Somewhere in my alternator thread is a link to a rewind custom alt company that will do this for you.

Good Luck! It's worth the effort.

just contact these guys.

http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/

they can upgrade anything.
will bolt back into the factory position and the original plug wires dont change.
you just upgrade your B+ cable

i contacted them not long ago

i asked them about my car (i used the same version rx7 alt description that i knew is the same as my Luce alt. cause sure as shit as soon as i said Luce i would have got a HUH?? lol)

question i asked -

what do you have as an upgrade for a gen 2 rx7 (89-91) alternator.

answer -

We can provide a direct replacement alternator that will use the same mounts, use the same belt and connect with your factory wiring harness, just need to upgrade B+. It is a 200 amp alternator that will provide about 110 amp at idle. The cost for this unit is $475.00 (this is US dollars). We would need 5 working days to build this for you. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks for the inquiry.
