Upgraded Clutch problems?
 

Ok. I bought a street/strip racing beat cluch and installed it today. My question is, where should the clutch engage. Right now it is all the way out, like 2 inches into the stroke of the clutch pedal. My stock clutch was about 5 inches out of a total of 6. Is this normal? Does it break in? Help.

I have an ACT racing clutch and it engages/disengages about 2 inches from the floor. I need to adjust it (if there is an adjustment, haven't looked yet) because taking off and shifting sux. From the sounds of your setup I would say run it.

*whew* I put in a ACT clutch and it disengages 2 in from the floor too, I thought somthing was wrong with my new clutch.

It's a hydraulic clutch, so the engagement point doesn't really matter as long as it engages. The engagement point will depend on the system, like is there any air in it, how old the fluid is, how spongy the line is and so on. On a cable clutch the engagement point can be an indication of clutch life, close to the floor = new, up high = old and will die soon. I'm not really sure if you can adjust it at all, but try looking in the manual and searching.

That and there is an adjustment nut on the clutch pedal metal to clutch master cylinder...

k heres a simple pic of how the system works, ideally you want it in the middle. if there is 8" of travel then around 4" should be the target. this helps with power shifting. the more you screw TOWARDS the firewall, the less your slave moves, and vice versa. with a good clutch and hydrolics, you should feel a stiff spot when you move the clutch. this is the disengage spot where it pushes on the pp. give the screw a couple turns, then try. repeat this. also before even trying, id bleed the system. auto parts sotres have a decnt bleeder kit for 20cdn. you need 2 people for this though. good luck

Thanks for your help guys. I just changed out my clutch master and slave cylinders about 3 weeks ago and the fluid of course at that time. I'm going to try to bleed them again and adjust the cluch pedal.
