UPDATE: MAZDA Dealer could not help with intermittent non start ! !
 

OK Dudes and Ladies, after lots of good information on my intermittent non start the following seems to consistently help: When she wont fire up with good compression sound and good battery turnover...I press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and turn it her over a few times then let up and she's been crankin and runnin fine....is this indication of Mild Flooding? 'cause when I would pull my plugs they are dry, dry. What is it doing when I press the pedal all the way down (88 GTU)? Thanks for all yer help !

That is a big indication of flooding or very low compression.

Again, (as covered in your last thread) what are the compression numbers???

When you open the throttle all the way, you are allowing the maximum air to enter as well as on the S4 cars (which your's is) it dumps the maximum oil into the oil injection system and into the engine for better compression and sealing.

This does clear any flooding in all 84-91 13B engines.

Thanks Ice....I don't have the numers on Comp. as yet, but this one can sit for two weeks and crank right up. To me this seems odd and if low compression was the issue should she not start with most of the oil settling into the pan? it only happens occaisionally when it is warm, not cooled all the way from shutting down, so some occaisional mild flooding sounds logical in light of the fact that I don't have to pull the plugs and clear out the fuel, what do you think, sir?

I thought I read somewhere also that when you floor the pedal when starting that keeps the car from getting fuel to help unflood the motor. I don't know if thats true thought because I know alot of people install switches for their fuel pump so they can turn it on and off from inside the car

ya, guy from Mazda said that, and it always works when my cars is flooded. The switches shouldn't be necessary. It works for s4 and s5 cars.

I seem to have a similar problem
no problem starting when its completely cooled down, but if I don’t wait at least 30 min to an hour after shutting it down, then it doesn’t like to start up...

check the water thermosensor.
