Unflooding with a kill-switch
 

I bought a 87 Turbo II 3 days ago, and thismorning when i went to start it, it would just turn over but wouldnt start. The guy i got it from showed me how to unflood it, but i have forgotten. He has a kill switch and thats what he used to unflood it, but im not sure what to do with it does anyone know?

turn off the switch... crank.. turn on the switch.. crank.

Umm take your plugs out and crank it over i beleave i have never flooded mine so im not sure what to do either!

Actually, if it's not badly flooded (you haven't kept trying to start it when it doesn't start after the first few times), you may be able to turn the switch off, crank until it starts, turn the switch on, and drive away.

remove the fuse from the injection it says img inj. or something like that. then just crank the car a couple times. then just connect it back. this little trick comes in handy when you live/park in a very bad neighborhood and dont want your car stolen.

^that is the method without a kill switch, the kill switch removes the under hood hassle

Sit in the drivers seat, turn the switch off and crank it for about 5-10 seconds. Turn the switch back on and start her up.

Turn the switch to OFF.

Crank (I loathe that term) or rather go to START with the key and at the same time put the accelerator pedal to the floor.

When the engine starts, immediatly put the switch to ON. Then drive off.

If you have persistent flooding problems, change your tactics. Each time you shut the engine off, rev the engine to approx 3000 rpm and turn the key to OFF at 3000. At the same time floor the accelerator pedal.

There's reason to this. If you just kill the engine by turning the fuel switch to OFF, the fuel rail will still be pressurized at 37psi for approx 20-30 minutes. Not a good condition for a car with possible leaking fuel injectors.

If you rev the engine to 3000 rpm.....turn the fuel switch to OFF.......and floor the pedal at the same time........the fuel injectors will still be operating as the engine dies. That will depressurize the fuel rail and at the same time burn the fuel that was in the rail. When the engine dies there will be NO pressure in the fuel rail.

If when starting a flooded car with a fuel cut switch, if the switch is to OFF and your foot is to the floor with the accelerator pedal, your accomplishing two things. Clearing the fuel out of the chambers and having an ignition source to help burn off the excess fuel.

Shouldn't that be, "and turn the switch to off at 3000 RPM"? If you turn the ignition key off, as I understand the electrical system, the ECU will be cut off and won't fire the injectors. Turning the cut switch to off with the key on will properly depressurize the fuel lines.

Well i got the car started by just flicking the switch to off and cranking it for about 5 seconds then flicking it to on and it was fine, but

yea, he meant switch not key....

I fucked up. Turn the fuel cut switch to OFF when you reach 3000, floor the pedal and let the engine die. Then turn the ignition switch to off.
