twin scroll removal exhaust mani
So when i ripped the emmissions off awhile ago found out i did something wrong. Twin scroll for the exhaust manifold has the vacuum line attached to the uim nipple with a check valve in it but I removed all the solonoids. So technically I guess the twin scroll is disabled (not working). Anyway I rebuilt my hybrid last couple days and while im in here I was going to weld up the bung on the exhaust manifold since the twin scroll is not working anyway. Will i gain slight power 1-2hp by removing and welding the bung because its straight flowing instead of having a flap there? went to the fc3spro to check before posting.

The flow path will be smoother without the door in the manifold, but guessing at some 1-2 hp gain is kind of pointless. All anyone can really say is that it's better flowing.
You'd gain some real power/torque below 2700 RPM if you make the twin-scroll system functional again. You don't need the emissions rack to do it; it's just a simple solenoid setup that you can mount anywhere. It just needs a vacuum source. |
I removed mine and still have plenty of low end. Car will also start to build boost by 2000 rpm in third and higher gears.
stock turbo/3" exhaust |
And you could have more low-end with the twin-scroll functional. There's no point in removing it. If the actuator and solenoid bother you that much, buy an S5 turbo and enjoy even faster spool at low RPMs.

well thats the thing i took off all the solonoids cut off all conecters individually heatshrunk everyone then shrunk and taped off the clutter. So no real going back now.
