Turboing a GXL?

If I had an 88 GXL and I was tired of adding fuel injectors and crap :D... could I add a turbo?
GXL's have a higher compression ratio and larger injectors than TII's, so I wouldn't blow the motor or something scary like that would I?
How big of a turbo would I add, and how would I go about doing this? I'd like to stay in one piece hehe bcuz I want to use this GXL for racing... my other is an amazing drifter with BALD tires :)

mother or god. Read the FAQ thread at the top of the f@cking page@!!!!$! >:o There should be a questionare I swear.

SpeedFreak03 01-25-04 08:44 PM

There is at least one of these topics on every single page! Man they should have something where if the subject has "turboing" when you go to post, it will automatically redirect you to the FAQ instead of posting it :D!

the FAQ does say how to swap a 13b-t for a 13b but i don't think it covers adding a turbo to a N/A 13b. i'm' gonna quickly double check though to make sure i didn't miss anything.

It has links to Aaron Cake's website. He has all the info for his N/a turbo engine.

turbo's have bigger injectors....

answer #1 to your question is no it can't be done....

answer #2 is search because this question comes up 3 times a week.

Actually more like 3 times a day but who's counting.

Santiago calm THE FUCK DOWN. Try to be helpful for once.

Just search for Aaron Cake, he got all kinds of stuff on how to turbocharge a non-turbo, but keep in mind its not an easy or cheap task.

16 years old. Ya think he is going to turbo his car? right......

The mods need to make the FAQ thread's tittle HUGE and make it "Look here new guys" instead of FAQ for FC

My son is 16 years old. He just drives the one we want to turbo.
Thanks a lot, and sorry. He wrote the post but we are seriously looking to turbo a NA engine.
I will search for Aaron Cake and we will see what we can do.
Once again, sorry!

Don't worry about it 2x88gxl. Some people have permanent sticks up their ass. here is the link and good luck.

haha

I've done it according to the guide written by aaron cake (stock 88 turbo with manifold, stock IC, stock TII injectors)... it runs, hopefully get it on the dyno once things thaw out up here. He has a N/A turbo forum on his site too which could be helpful.

actually maybe its just me.. but this topic seemed to have died down recently lol. If U do go ahead with it good luck!

It's in the FAQ, but it's in a crappy location, after about a million definitions.
IMO, it should be moved up to the top, next to the swap info.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my GXL one of these days, but I have a lot of work to do yet.

Here's the breakdown:
The turbo motor has 4 exhaust ports, the n/a has six, this makes adding a turbo require a custom exhaust manifold, or at least a spacer for the old manifold.

What I don't understand is why doesn't someone weld up some and sell them? Sure, there's some other custom stuff involved, but the manifold is the biggest stumbling block. I bet someone could easily set up a group buy and sell ten.
