turbo timer wiring question

posted this in interior/exterior/audio but that forum is almost dead... someone here will know. I just don't know shit about electronics and wiring yet.

My turbo timer has to wire up to 12v(on) and 12v (ignition). Do I have to wire these right into the ignition harness or can I use my stereo wiring harness. The stereo is out and the harness is all ready and the turbo timer is going in right below it. It would save me a lot of hassle if I didn't have to wire it into the actual ignition harness (pain in the ass). With the stereo harness I can solder it on my desk and then just plug it in.

Your stereo wires do not have ignition in them. Only accessory.

It is very very easy to get to the ignition wires, much easier than to the radio wires.

Drop the lower column cover and trim panel under the steering column. All the wires you need will be readly accessible.

completely snapped the steering column trim (the top piece) F@#! oh well, the snap will be out of site and easily fixable with krazy glue.

FSM says ignition 12v (B = battery) is Black. I thought ALL black wires were ground.

yes the primary power for the ignition switch is Black. The igntion is Black/white.

And no many black wires are not ground. Only in aftermarket radios and some electronics is black always ground.

awesome, thanks Icemark. Most things I don't mind jumping into and hacking around until it works or it's f*cked but not wiring, especially not ignition wiring.

a BIG thanks to NZConvertible who has also been helping me out too. Damn Levoc Turbo Timer is rare, no writeups on the net, and a japanese manual nobody can find... hehe :-)

cheers,

DAMNIT! No power!

red wire to ignition - black /w stripe
yellow wire to battery 12v - black
black wire to ground
grey wire to parking brake

blue (acc) and white (coil ?) not connected

my stereo works fine and shares a ground with the turbo timer. when the car is on, I get no power to the timer. is there anything anyone can see thats obviously wrong?

its a levoc model 73 I think.
