uh yeah you need to pull it from the top but a lot can be done from the bottom. it takes me around thirty minutes. but i do have the air pump, stock intake and emissions removed which helps. it pretty straight forward.

wow holy crap it was a mission for me to change the LIM manifold gasket im guessing its around the same idea =/

Getting that turbo off is no problem. Get the down pipe off, the turbo water and oil feed and return lines off, unbolt the 4 bolts holding it to the block and yank her out!
(Dont forget the twinscroll if a S4).

34 minutes and I can R&R my turbo out from the top. I have no abs, no cruise, no emissions, no air pump, NOTHING!

TII '87 07-24-05 10:22 PM

well, I guess people do not include the time to drain oil and coolant....

remember that it's its first time, there are quite a lot of things to look at if the car id completely stock...

do not forget also that those downpipe nuts are so stubborn and difficult tu reach

so estimate an afternoon if you are not well equipped and non experienced

well me DP is less than 2 years old, and the PO slapped on a turbo from a jspec with low miles. the only main thing thats in the way is the vacuum rack.

The first time I did it, it took about 2 hours to get it out, but I've got all the emissions stuff, and was really cautious since I kind of suck at working on cars. I've done it twice since then and now I'm down to about 45 minutes to have it on the bench.

cjbechtel 07-25-05 12:36 AM

you dont have to drain the oil and you just have to take out the drain plug to drain the coolant.

did you guys reuse the gaskets if they seemed ok or do i have to go about getting new ones from mazda?

igottafc 07-26-05 03:36 PM

the reason being that the gaskets are so much from mazda

jack_arss 07-26-05 05:11 PM

i can pull into the garage, RR, and drive out in about an hour.

i re-use my old gaskets, no leaks.

btw-this is marksmazda11

cjbechtel 07-26-05 05:29 PM

the gasket for the water line has alway given me trouble. i think mazdatrix has all the gaskets you would need for that project for a lower price. youre not talking about the manifold gaskets are you? those WILL be fine.

im going to be starting this in a min just to get it straight........I DO NOT have to drain the oil???
Thanks
