Hi, I asked this in another forum, but want to get it around as much as possible to see the variety of answers I get. I currently have an '87 N/A and am looking for a junked TII motor to swap in there. However, I began thinking that the two engines are not too different. So here's my question, what are the specific differences in the engines (block only)?

Would it be possible for me to source some TII rotors and just swap those in there with a new counter-balance for the eccentric shaft?

Would I need to get some TII housings since they don't have the same ports as N/A?

Is the engine on the N/A and TII basically the same, except the rotors/housings?

And finally, what if I got some TII rotors and put those in my N/A housings with the correct eccentric shaft balancing, used the N/A Intake manifolds, and custom make and exhaust manifold for a turbo? Still trouble?

n/a motors are 6 port engines and TII's are 4 port.the housings are different,the turbo engine does not have the egr on the middle housing,the compression ratios are different,the turbo rotors weigh less than n/a's so the counter balancers are different.Your best bet would be to get an engine and drivetrain from a TII.

The only thing the same between the engines is the eccentric shaft. Much easier to swap in the TII engine...

I don't understand how it's overkill. Any motor I buy is going to be rebuilt and ported. Therefore, buying a JDM engine would be a waste when I could just track down a blown USDM TII and rebuild it. I understand that there could be some rotor/housing problems with a blown motor, but I can get all of these parts for fairly cheap (cheaper than a j-spec motor at least). I'd just like to take the motor I have, put in some new rotors and ecc. shaft (counterbalance if necessary) and turbo it. I know I'd have to find alot of parts (turbo, IC, etc.) but I can do all this custom to what I want.

Does anyone know if there is *any* difference besides emissions equipment (would be removed anyway) between the TII S4 block and the N/A S4 block? - granted that I know about the rotors/housing/shaft balance.

Everything is different between the two besides the eccentric shaft and maybe a few sensors. Aaron already said this once.
