Turbo Manifold Red Hot at Idle, Help

Ok, have a little situation here and could use some help from anyone willing to lend a helping hand. Have an 87 Turbo II Engine in an FB, Computer and Tranny aswell. I upgraded to a GT35 Turbo today and ran water lines inlet/outlet, Oil lines inlet/outlet. My Problem is, I fired the car up and it idle for nearly 4 minutes at 900rpm's around that time is when I noticed my exhaust manifold red hot and exhaust leak coming out of the Turbo Housing on the T3 Flange, afterwards my engine wouldnt rev it would want to cut off like it wanted to shut off. What possibilities should I start looking into on this matter? Also, the Air MAS Sensor couldnt get plugged where it did with stock set-up, could that be causing my engine not to stay running plus exhaust getting red hot? When I shut it off I did noticed a bubbling sound coming from what it seemed to me out of the radiator neck or somewhere in that area couldnt make it out good.

I waited 3 mins then fired her up and she rev up no problem for about 10 secs but then died on me 2 times so I called it quits until I can figure out whats going on.

Any Suggestions to my Problem?
Thanks

Why are you running a gt35 turbo on a stock computer and MAF?

RotaryEvolution 05-26-11 09:59 PM

you can't install a GT35 onto an engine and expect it to even idle correctly without corrections made. simply changing turbos affects how much fuel the engine needs at all RPMs, including at idle.

Computer not stock, MAF has been gutted by previous owner

Karack...
Are you suggesting any Injectors?

jaggermouth 05-26-11 10:37 PM

Instead of being so vague, give us a list of what you have on your car, sheeeeesh.
-what computer
-injectors
-ignition setup etc etc etc

TainoCo 05-26-11 10:53 PM

Computer was sent off by previous owner don't know for sure what was done to it...
Injectors are 550cc...
ignition is stock...

RotaryRocket88 05-26-11 11:02 PM

Recipe for disaster. You need much larger injectors, a better fuel pump and a programmable computer to start.

TainoCo 05-26-11 11:10 PM

RotaryRocket88

yes i got that feeling too, lol. How much in cc's would you recommend the injectors to be, I had a feeling that I would've had to replace them just wanted to make sure had no leaks while turbo running. Fuel Pump is a Walbro and as for the Programmable Computer, I wouldnt know where to start on that one... if I could get guidance in the right direction surely would be appreciated as to where to go, Thanks

Haltech and Microtech are popular. Call around your area and find out what tuner likes what, or if you're going to tune yourself, then visit the haltech and microtech subforums and make your own decision.
You would be safe with 550cc primary injectors and 1600cc secondaries. What walbro you have?

TainoCo 05-26-11 11:59 PM

Fuel Pump -> Walbro 255 lph external.

will check on these around town Haltech and Microtech and only know of one place in the area that do some work on rotaries every now and then.

on injectors -> Wow! lol didnt realize how much more fuel delivery I was going to be needing 1600cc secondaries cool am fixing to start searching now for a pair.

Ok Guys,
Have some vital information upon requested from you guys that I wasnt sure to begin with, Got a hold of previous owner and was told the following:

Injectors,
Primary 550cc
Secondary 820cc

Computer,
Rtek 7 Chip

Ignition,
Stock

Was told by previous owner that 1600cc would be to much for the Rtek but 1000cc or 1100cc for secondaries would work fine with it. As for the MAF he said to check for after market or adapt factory to it. Any Suggestions as to the MAF???
Thanks!

Spark Plugs are NGK

Spark Plug Wires are Racing Beat Ultra

jaggermouth 05-27-11 06:27 PM

I wouldn't use the Rtek on a Gt35 turbo build, call me crazy.

TainoCo 05-27-11 07:13 PM

Am actually Considering Power FC, If I went with this one what all else would I need to get running?

arghx 05-27-11 07:53 PM

You've got a lot of reading to do... start searching in this section and in the single turbo section. The single turbo section mostly covers engines with bigger turbo upgrades that use an aftermarket exhaust manifold.

Barnett87GXL 05-27-11 09:28 PM

+1 ^

there are many threads in the single turbo section involving the gt35's,

with most aftermarket engine management computers you can get rid of the MAF.

You just have to do a lot of reading if you plan on doing this work yourself.

RotaryEvolution 05-27-11 09:39 PM

Rtek is only good for about 350WHP, maybe 400 with some tweaking. generally i only recommend 350WHP on the Rtek 2.1 mainly because your airflow meter will max out beyond that and you will be flying blind with your tuning capability.

depending on your goals the GT35 is capable of ~500 wheel horsepower.

TainoCo 05-27-11 10:06 PM

ok, Thanks I will do more search on here since my original thought was to eliminate the maf anyhow. Thanks Guys

RotaryRocket88 05-27-11 11:46 PM

Yes, go with the above advice. An Rtek 2.x isn't a good choice for that turbo, and you are right about 1600cc injectors being too big for it. The injector presets and the maximum fuel correction (+/- 37%) won't allow you to tune the secondary injector transition. Besides, I'll bet the chip you have is the 1.7, which is not programmable, and is preset for 550/720cc injectors: http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=rtek7.
