turbo II for my bro

what do you guys think my brother should do? My brother needs a new car, and a friend is offering an 88 black turbo II with around 90,000 miles on it for $2,200. There is a problem with the automatic choke, because it doesn't go off even when the engine warms up. He thinks it burns a lot of oil, because these huge clouds of really black smoke come out of the exhaust. and he's pretty sure the compression is bad, and it needs a rebuild.

and also, he was wondering (and I) if there is like a place online, where you could maybe buy brand new engines for rx7s. I mean this might be like the dumbest question you guys have ever heard, but I just don't know.

well, tell me what you guys think he should do...thanks.

2200 for a car with a blown motor? Maybe if it was in good condition inside and out, with low mileage.

You could get a perfect running S4 TII in good shape for 2200... I'd say keep looking.

I paid 3200 for mine, the it blew on the roadtrip down, no way of knowing, no smoke, no coolant. The car does however, have one kickass interior + rb turbo back, greddy boost + egt gauges, banzai TID and an HKS FCON. I dunno, its a love/hate relationship.

thanks guys, but it's not a blown motor, just hasn't been run in a while, and might need a little tune up. I think it's a good deal, it's got decently low miles, and the interior is good, and the paint is a just a tad faded.

Depends on where you are...

Here, when I was looking for rx7s, a good condition s4 TII with moderate mods was 3-4k and an s5 TII was 4-5k, thats the reason I went with an n/a :(

Any chance there are any rotary or mazda shops around your area? If so, take it to one you trust for a buyers inspection maybe.

yeah my mechanic is a rotary specialist..he knows his shit. I told him to take it there for a compression test, and to check out the choke, I think he's going to.

Hey man and everyone-
If you need an engine look up Rx-7 Specialties.
www.rotaryengine.ca
They have AWESOME deals. I am ordering an 88 t2 from them with upgraded seals for $1444. They use s5 rotor housings and have a 12month 24,000 mile warranty. Also they have an exhaust system that (with fuel upgrades) adds 60 hp!!! Anyway, they are a great help too if you contact them. The engine prices are 'inconceivable'.
