Turbo II..to much
Hey guys, ive been shopping around for an FD (yes, ive been doing my research :) ), but couldn't find a nice reasonably priced one in my area.
I was giving up hope when I came across a very clean turbo II. Its an 87 w/75K miles, one owner. Its got a brand new paintjob. New tires (less than 200miles), upgraded feul injectors, MBC, RB exhaust, racing clutch and a bunch of other stuff. The shop that did all the work is Lowes (sp?) Automotive in Sarasota, FL. Anyway here are some pics. http://gallery.thevboard.com/users/Lawerence/front.jpg http://gallery.thevboard.com/users/L...ce/34front.jpg http://gallery.thevboard.com/users/Lawerence/34back.jpg http://gallery.thevboard.com/users/Lawerence/zumzum.jpg http://gallery.thevboard.com/users/Lawerence/RBexh.jpg So i posted these on my usual MSG boards and people were telling me that its not a real turbo II because it doesnt have round taillights? I have the vin # too, but dont have carfax to check it out :( When I was speaking with the owner of the shop he said that a different car with all the same mods ran a 13.5 (i dont really care about speed, but im just posting what he said). Do you guys think that is in line with the mods I listed? Also is there anything to know about the 87 model year? (like was there a problem that was fixed for the 88 or 89 year?) And last, how much would you pay for this? (all the work just got done and it has a fresh coat of paint) Thanks! |
KBB shows the private party value ~$2860.
13.5? Maybe with some weight reduction.. You should ask why the owner is giving up on it. EG: What repairs does he think it will be needing this year? Cool tag.. |
The 87-88 turbos didn't have the round taillights, only the 89+ have those.
I don't think the car will run that fast with the mods listed... Check the fuel pulsation damper asap, those were known to leak fuel on the S4's. $6000 is nice S5 territory, so I wouldn't want to pay much more than $4000-$4500 or so for that one. Just my opinion, it looks like a very nice car, though. |
Thanks alot guys!
I thought the taillights were a model year thing. You should ask why the owner is giving up on it. EG: What repairs does he think it will be needing this year? and I was thinking about offering him 4K and going up to 5 max. But people were telling me 5 is too much |
Got to say the KBB will go out the window on this car. With with mods listed and if a turbo back RB exhaust, 13.5 very achievable. Yes there were Turbo II's in '87 & '88. The round tailights came with the '89's. Price tag I would venture a guess @ $5000 if everthing is a nice as the car looks. Be cautious though, looks can be deceiving. That paint job could be a $300 enamel job. Check all receipts.

Thats a good looking TII. Deffinitely fetch a pretty penny. Wouldn't pay any more than 4500 assuming everything is in working order.

I don't remember on my TII, but I know on the 86-88 GXL wheels, they were marked for the fans to be going that way, instead of what looked right, to me..
|
shit if you dont get it i would like to check it out...

Get that thing up on a lift. Check out the undercarraige. Your driver's side front bumper is missing it's little vent like thing. I would venture to guess it might be jammed up into the car, check out what other damage has been sustained on the front drivers side to the underside of the car.

Ok guys I went and looked at it.
We went for a nice test drive. The car pulls very nice and hard. Suspension feels tight. The brakes are brand new as is the clutch/AC (upgraded from R32), and multiple other things. Assuming that everything checks out on carfax, I am going to buy the car tommorow :) I love it!!!!11!! Oh a more complete list of mods: RB exhaust MBC (A pillar boost and air/fuel gage) 720cc injectors Custom tuning by Mike Lowe Racing Clutch Braided brake lines (and replaced all plastic piping in the engine bay) K&N air filter Dunlup tires (forgot the paticular type) let me say again....I LOVE this car :) |
Oh and the wheels were sanded down with 1500 grit and polished.
But what is wrong with the wheels? |
I had a chance to run my old TII stripped of AC, PS, , cone filter, no heater, wipers, radio, spare, antenna, airpump, no emissions. For further weight reduction it had 2 stock spares up front and 300ZX wheels on the rear, no pass seat (for drags) and a smaller battery. The car weighed in at 2450lbs, that is 350-400lbs lighter than a stock TII.
http://community.webshots.com/photo/...56934222aRdVKl More: http://community.webshots.com/album/29829335dZcQQoISEZ Performance mods were straight pipe 3" exhaust, 17lb steel flywheel, ACT clutch, cone filter, MBC running 9psi. Funny after about 10 runs the best run was 13.425 @ 105.5 mph with a 1.968 60' time. I don't see how a car without any weight reduction is gonna run a 13.5. Anyway make sure that the paint job isn't just shiny, but actually used good quality paint. |
The wheels are on the wrong side. The vanes in the wheels are to facing the opposit direction. Meaning switch driver's side to pass. side. If the tires are directional, a lot of work to remount and balance.
|
Looks mint!!! makes me miss my FC
|
meh, if its that much work then i'll just let the wheels be on the wrong side untill I get new tires...which wont be for a while :)
Thanks alot for the answers and comments guys. You have been invaluable. I'll make a new thread with some better pics once i get it all cleaned up and detailed. |

No more 13's, but I don't drag race, and would rather drive the car for more than 14 seconds before the engine blows. ;) |

In your profile you list your location as Oregon... just how many feet above sea level do you live? About a month ago, my '88 TII with 149K on the original engine and clutch ran a 14.5 with an intake and gutted pre-cat, stock exhaust, blown rear shocks at Darlington, SC. Darlington might be a hundred feet above sea level, like any point in FL. Air temp was also a factor since it was in the low 40's that night. Denser air=more power even in forced induction applications. So a 13.5 on those mods is more than reasonable given that FL can run dragstrips almost year round and is just above sea level. |
if I didn't have a busted rear suspension and could
actually launch I could have pulled a 13.3/13.4 in my car with the 105.6 mph trap speed...stock turbo, ecu, IC |
That car is easily worth 5000
I sold my TurboII with 133k, new paint, stock for $3400. It looked mint, similar to your car, but wayyy more miles and no perf. mods edit:: oops you are actually looking to buy unless you are set on a S5 (some people are, its stupid) Id say this is one of the nicest FCs Ive seen |
Originally posted by Evil Aviator My 88 TII did 13.6 with a good driver, and 13.8 with an OK driver. I think I didn't get the best 60' out there but sub 2.0 isn't bad. I think that is an indication of a good driver ;). You also didn't quote boost levels;). |
i'd offer him $3500, and then go up to 4k max, 5k is way to much in my opinion... you can find a stock S5 TII in good cond. for that much...
