Turbo II acting like my old na....

Well guys Im at a loss to whats wrong with my car.
Took a friend for a ride today- it was acting as fast as his 12a First gen, and like my old na.

If I steped on the gas, go through first- around 6-7k- it bucked and lost power. Backfired at the same time and choked.
Go into second- does the same thing- hardly any power despite full boost being built-
Hit third- hardly any power- but it gets me to 80, slowly.....
Hit 4th- take it to 100 slowly.- feeling loss of power.

So I repeat- And now- 1st- 2nd- 3rd I hear a squealing above 3k- Think its my single alternator belt slipping on the water pump-

I can hear the boost wooshing in the engine bay- and have a 1500 idle. Its really rough and drops to 800 some times-

Now the things I know that need to be done on the car-
The cat air tube conenction has been left open- I constanly hear backfires from it under the car- I need to cap it- mabey Ill get flames then :).
Replace the UIM gasket- I know its been reused too many times.

Im just now thinking mabey my Emissions block of plate is commming loose, however I used plenty of RTV on there :).

Gasket, a Yahoo belt- and a blockoff for that cat are comming this week.

Any chance it could be my turbo goin out?

The Spyder 08-06-04 11:19 PM

Hurm. Im kinda sure its the vac lines/ UIM gasket.
I just remembered how loost fitting the front UIM vac connections were.

Guess its off to mazda to order a new one!! Ill replace all the vac lines tommorow.

The Spyder 08-06-04 11:38 PM

Hurm- I also want to bring up my fuel cut issue.

I had to replace the hard line that ran to the pressure sensor due to it cracked in half.....
Now my guage is very jumpy and pretty inacurate.

I read over at team fc3s that theres a pill or restrictor that goes in the line before the pressure sensor. This is long gone in my case.

Now I randomly hit fuel cut based on what the stock guage reads. Which rather sucks, because im its not right that im boosting more then 8.6psi at 5k. When this fuel cut happens, the car hits a wall, and then after it resets- keeps going.

If my pressure sensor dosent have that stock pill- could it be reading wrong and causing fuel cut?

I ported the wastegate a little when I had acess to it- and Im running a 2.5 TID since the stock broke.

Should I try and replace the pill?

The Spyder 08-07-04 01:00 AM

So should I replace that restrictor or what?

locketine 08-07-04 02:02 AM

hey my car doesn't do that! free bump for you spyder, that's over my head. btw the only serious problems I have left is a periodic rough idle and a dead zone in my tps at 2500rpms.

The Spyder 08-07-04 02:08 AM

I have a extra TPS if you want it- I think it will work on the NA-

I meant how gutless it feels :D.
Hhahaha-
Glad your enjoying it.

snub disphenoid 08-07-04 02:11 AM

My car made that wooshing sound in the engine bay and had this problem as well, but it's an NA. Do you have some sort of fuel control?

The Spyder 08-07-04 02:17 AM

Nope. Stock except whats in my sig.

snub disphenoid 08-07-04 02:30 AM

Well, when my car started doing that above about 5k, like seriously bucking and heaving, I had to run the car rich because my secondary injectors were starting to poop out. Fixed the problem, but I don't know about yours.

The Spyder 08-07-04 02:32 AM

I disassembled (orings and caps) and cleaned all my injectors basicly with carb cleaner- because I knew they were pretty dirty and dont have the down time to get them cleaned yet- I was getting bad hot start and flooding- but not anymore.

The Spyder 08-07-04 03:43 PM

Yep im definitly missing that Pill restrictor.

But it also looks like my ACV block off plate is also leaking- im going to try resealing it and see what happens.

The Spyder 08-07-04 11:53 PM

Took off the ACV blockoff, cleaned, re sprayed (it was bare before)- and re RTV'd it-
Also hose clamped EVERY line I could.

Now I took it for a drive, it feels GREAT.
Turbo spools and pulls me to 80 without even TRYING.
I continue my drive, the throttle getts a little less responcive.

I stop at a friends, hes not home, but his neighbore is, so I chat.
Start the car, starts right up, and I pull away.

Now I step on it and LAG. Acts just like it did before.
I know my UIM seal needs to be replaced, and im sill hearing a Wooshing from under the hood.

Other then the UIM seal, what else could possible cause this.

The Spyder 08-08-04 02:41 PM

???

The Spyder 08-09-04 12:38 AM

im loosing faith every time............

kd86rx7 08-11-04 03:36 AM

might be the restrictor pill, i have the same problem, im looking to find it, im going to the dealer tomorrow to see if they have it, heard its only $2.50

eric.

RX-7 GT 08-11-04 02:22 PM

the restrictor pill doesnt cause that much hassle. i dont' even have one and its been running fine. same with the old t2.

must be something else. you need to get your fuel cut issue fixed though...especially how you drive!

kd86rx7 08-11-04 08:15 PM

i went to the dealer and they couldnt understand wat i was looking for, so i had this metal t for vacuum lines with notches that controls how much air is going through, i used that to prevent some air going through and it solved the problem.

i already bought the greddy profec b, but not installed, this is wat i found on the net

"Per GReddy's directions, we installed the supplied replacement wastegate lines with no such boost-manipulating restrictors. The reasoning? Because now we have a programmable solenoid!"

kd86rx7 08-11-04 11:17 PM

are there resistor pills in na's also>?

Heres the newest problems.

I cant hold boost, but I can hear it seaping out the UIM gasket too. I replaced ALL vacume lines with new. Im still waiting for the gasket.

I think I need a bigger fuel pump or something. Because Im not sure im hitting fuel cut.

Example.

Im driving tonight, I want to test this theory.

I pull out, go into first till 5.5-
Shift into 2nd and Hit the gas- watching boost.
I hit 6k ish and I BOG bigtime, no fuel, studdering, I back off it and it recovers.

Does the same in 3rd.
And 4th.
In 5th- I take it aboe 5.5k with boost, and it studders and has no fuel. WTF. I cant go above 110.

Im watching boost the whole time.
Its not acting like a Fuel cut.
Im plumbing my new boost guage tommorow.
But When I hit boost, It goes upto the same place it awalys has, then creeps higher, despite porting the wastegate a bit. Guess I need it more.....

Im lost again.

snub disphenoid 08-12-04 02:18 AM

It's my understanding that UIM gasket leaks can be serious. My car's idle was going bezerk until I replaced mine. Also, when my car was studdering, I also replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs.

The Spyder 08-12-04 02:22 AM

I am wondering if the gasket leak is allowing more air into the pressure sensor or something like that- Making it think its hitting fuel cut early.

Ill get the new gasket ASAP.

Kingofl337 08-12-04 07:07 AM

If the uper intake gasket is leak the MAF is going into the engine then there really is. Causing you to run way to rich.

hondahater 08-12-04 07:48 AM

don't know if this will help but I did the fuel pump rewire and I had a bad ground causing not near enough fuel. When I test drove it the first few times when I would hit curtain boost levels above 7 or so psi it would buck and backfire really bad! When I would give the turbo time to spool up slowly it would be fine it was only when I was mashing the accelerator when it would happen. ANyways as soon as I regrounded, no more sputtering and backfiring. You may need to do the fuel pump rewire! It was the best thing I could have done! And it is easy.

rx7roller02 08-12-04 09:58 AM

it just sounds like a bad vacuum leak to me.

kd86rx7 08-12-04 05:35 PM

the resistor pill is only in teh hose of the pressure sensor rihgt? no where else? only one under the hood?

eric.
