thats what I did LOL but thats only because I got them in the junkyard for $20 :P |
put the t2 hood on. if you have hood spacers use them. if not remove the ruber along the back of the hood area. if you have the throtle body mod. your intake with the t2 hood will have cooler air temps. i had it on my 7 for a while till i got my vented hood. it works with keeping temps down trust me. good luck with your build.
|
where is drifter403 when you need him.. he has a hood that he drilled holes in him self over the exhast mani.. looks dorlky as hell but it works or him. and yes if you have a t2 hood on an N/A you would probably be laughed at by other rx7 owners. other than that regular car peeps wont know the diff. lol, but hey, you do what you want. if you want a TII hood then just do it. screw what we say about it. its your car mayne.
|
Hmm, so it's safe to assume that SE (base models) had steel hoods? Any way to tell by looking under the hood for a particular part number or prefix?
|
yes it will fit but y put it on if not needed? so new to rx7 huh? get ready for some fun things to happen!!! first thing get rid of that cat converter it will clog up! second do away with the air pump, u dont need it! get it ported it will be faster, dont v8 swap it thats a waste of time unless ur turnin it drag? make sure ur slave cylinder is not leakin if so rebuild it, dont buy new one. the car is hella fun and hondas hate em lol. btw it will outrun a police interceptor vic< know from exp lol enjoy the car its great, how many miles u got on motor cuz after 150k they supposed to be rebuilt and always check ur oil the car naturally uses oil if more than 1 qt month u need to rebuild motor!!! also if you do a 93 rx spindle swap u got better options for wheels like mustang or for giggles u can do 20s but the cornering will be lost need i say more!!!! im sellin my 86 na real cheap if u kno ne1 hit me up. With my TII hood on my N/A 7, it has the "JDM Hood Prop" meaning there's spacers right where the hinges are letting "hot air" out with the given space it has. When driving you can feel the hot air hitting the windshield and at idle you can feel the fan blowing the "hot air" out as well.
Maybe this can be a method to let "hot air" out better? I read in a magazine that this trick can cool the engine bay 10-20 degrees less than normal (test was done on a 93 miata) no way of knowing unless you test it.

If you're asking about what it originally came with, it is unlikely that an '88 SE would have had an aluminum hood from the factory, but not absolutely impossible. It wasn't supposed to have come with one, but there were instances of random parts substitutions. The only time aluminum hoods were commonly found on base 4-lug cars was 1986. |
I run a T2 hood my NA S5 was my first car. I know that debris and water go through the scoop into the engine bay but I really don't care. When I check the vitals on my car I also clean up the engine bay, so that takes care of the mess that goes in there. Since it is your car make sure you like how it looks. The appearance of the car matters to you and only your because at the end of the night you go to sleep knowing that it is your car and it looks just how you like it.
|
I swapped a TII aluminum hood to my 91 NA for the weight savings, plain and simple. Looks are subjective, so do what you like. I don't really care if someone thinks I'm a "tii poser" for having the hood, and I like the look anyway, although I'd have been just as happy to find an aluminum vert hood without the scoop, but those are even rarer. Of course, after looking a long time, right after I paid someone a couple hun for the aluminum hood, I found one in the local pick'n'pull, where I could have had it for $30 :P

Man you can tell by lifting that sucker up. Lmao.
The steel hoods are heavy as hell. Cussing. Blood... Blood... Paper towels and a bit more cussing. Considering the shape of the hood prop, I am not sure how I knocked it out of the hole, but I did. |
My roots are in classic muscle cars. My first car was a 67 firebird...still miss that thing BTW. Anyway, coming from that background it's very looked down on for owners to restore old muscle to look like a rare powerful car. Putting all the bells and whistles on a camaro to make it look like a Zcar or a GTO to look like a Judge. It's a little different with these cars cause they're not as rare. But it's a letdown to see what you think is 69 Trans-Am only to find out it's a 350 made to look poser is...well...a letdown.
That being said, it's only a hood. It's your car and as long as your not going full out making it look like a TII I got no issues. |
i have a t2 hood on my n/a... the reason i did it was because last time i checked it was my car... if you like t2 hoods then f**k it its your car anyway... i think it stupid how some guys think its dumb to put s5 lights on s4 and t2 hoods on n/a when they themselves have body kits... isn't that being a hypocrite

I don't see the issue with putting a TII hood on an NA car. Who cares? Just don't put a steel hood in place of an aluminum hood. My NA hooded car isn't NA, so I should now install a TII hood? Please...

3 pages, lets keep this going on forever and ever
everyone keep saying the same thing over and over again, I dont think the people have made their point |
To each their own, I like the TII hoods on all of the Rx7's, turbo or not. Its just like the Starion/Conquest guys and using the '83 hoods with the scoops...to each their own.

There is NOTHING wrong with getting a TII hood for the look. It will obviously make the car look more aggressive. People who have nothing better to do than bitch about stupid shit and call out "posers" are posers and ricers themselves, because a true enthusiast would be pre-occupied with more important things. Edit: and please stop all the crap about underhood temps, lol... |

My plan is to wait 10 years then revive the thread with a second account. I'll add something like.
"This is my first rotary, I heard these hoods are lighter, will it make my car go faster?" Also, Just also add in the 'what do you guys think of v8 swaps?' part on top of it. It'll hit 10 pages in no time... lol |
