Turbo charging a non turbo car

How hard would it be to add a turbo charger to a regular 13b engine non turbo. I know I would have to get the manifold, turbo, and some other goodies. But is the engine ready to be turboed. I know some cars that share the same engine can be turboed easily with out a lot of modifications to the engine. Or would I have to lower the compression and go into the engine and change parts and put on a tighter sealing head gasket.

I guess Ill say it before anyone else SEARCH. It has been covered before many times

it can be done, Aaron Cake has done it. from what little I know, there's a lot that has to be done to make it work right (as if turbocharging anything is simple).

you should try searching though. this is asked a lot.

Ok, I was going to be nice until you said "head gasket"
Its a rotary. THEY DON"T HAVE HEADS.
You need to read everything in the FAQs, read the Haynes manual cover to cover, and do some research about rotary engines.
Then, and only then, can you even think about turboing your car.

The short answer is that its more work than you want to do, and its easier to just buy one that started out with a turbo. Anything else you will find in the FAQs.

At the very top of most all *pages* on this forum, there is a SEARCH feature. You can click on it and throw a few relevant words in and hopefully a hit or two to read.

Also, as you read this post, go down to the very BOTTOM of this page and take a look see. There will be maybe four or five SIMILAR THREADS you can click on that are on this subject.

you will DEFINITELY need a tighter sealing head gasket :ugh2:

Quoted from the FAQ:

Can I swap a Turbo engine/Jspec engine/13BT/etc into my Non Turbo?
Yes, check these links:

What Turbo kits can I add onto my non turbo RX-7?
There are no longer kits formally made at the time of this post, however there are companies from time to time that do make available non turbo to Turbo Kits. Because most of these companies stop building the kits, or go out of business in short time, it is impossible to keep active links for them.

Most people that turbo a non turbo make their own kits:
Using the stock TII turbo, exhaust manifold with spacer, NA intakes and NA ECU:
