The rx7s stock bov does not vent to atmosphere (I.E. giving you the "bling bling" pssshhht sound.) It vents into the intake.

What RPM the turbo starts to spool and what PSI you get at what RPM depends on mods (how free your exaust and intake is, etc etc).

The turbo is spooling whenever the engine is running. The turbo will produce boost at very low rpm. The secondary stage kicks in at 2500rpm.

This is called a bypass valve. The air needs to vent back to the intake because if air that was already metered by the airflow meter were vented from the system, then the engine would not get as much air as the engine control computer expected, creating a rich condition which causes a slight hesitation. Yes, replacing the bypass valve with a BOV will make the car run a bit slower, but it's all about the bling factor, right?

Stock ones wont much noise, especially if its still going to the airbox. Get an open intake and you can heat it beathing in and out. Sounds pretty cool but it wont blow off.

It's not venting to the atmosphere, but the stock actually recirculating the air to hold boost between shifts.

Stocker!

Actually, my stock BOV sounds very loud, i do not feel the need for an aftermarket one!!! Mine makes a lot of noice when shifting, and it really realese the pressure with a loud "PFFSCHH!" every time - very funny to listen to!! My mods are a big cone air filter from Piper Cross with TID-mod and hybride-turbo/dp. But it really was´nt anywhere noticable when the intake was still stock... then it was very silent. And boring! I think it maybe the way my filter is designed, it has a sort of "tunnel" i alu in the middle of the cone.

same with my buddy's TII....and my friend's SRT-4. My friend's SRT-4 sounds like an old man on a respirator though...lol, he always hated my HKS SSQV lol.
