turbo 2 thinking of going n/a after i get back from school
well ive had my fair share of problems with my drag car including blowing the engine at a track this weekend :icon_tdow so im thinking of going n/a
anyway i have alot of experience with sidedraft carbs (on my toyotas) so that wont be a problem. but im wondering if i can use my spare turbo block or if i have to get an n/a one also im wondering what electronic stuff i can get rid of, ecu, power steering ecu and junk like that i just have to be able to keep it streetable edit if anyone has some pics of n/a set ups i would appreciate seeing them! |
that seems like such a step in the wrong direction. You can use your turboII engine but it would be lower compression and make less power not to mention its a 4 port.
I would guess that if you put carbs on a stock TII 4 port engine you would be lucky to get 130whp |

Mostly block off stuff for things like missing oil lines and such. As far as running it non fuel injected, as far as I know you can get rid of everything but the alternator. If you need emissions you will want to keep the airpump and other emission related equipment. Search around and you will probably get more and better answers. |

ok well i did a little research and ive got a 6 port block coming from one of my friend for free (it was his school project) im trading him my turbo one
the only reason im going n/a is i want all my cars to be in the same class and i dont really care about alot of power edit: i also dont need emissions and the block is street ported |
If you plan on going carb'd, your going to need to change your fuel pump. The stock fuel pump pushes about 40 psi of fuel pressure and a carb only needs about 6. 8-9 if you are running a large port n/a motor.
You also need the ignition coils and distributor off a first gen. Honestly, you should probably stay with the EFI. |

You need to do your research.

you should try getting a hold of robert from rotaryshack.com he will tell you what you need and wont. he built mine! tell him andres sent you :)
can i have your turbo stuff? :) I want a blow thru kit |
Here, I have a better one for you. I'll trade you all my n/a carb stuff for your turbo stuff. Fuel pump, coils, exhaust and intake. Everything.

4-port TII motors make power as n/a. This example is a bit more modded, but it will make more then 130whp.
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=801325 I say without opening the engine he would be lucky to get 130whp out of his current engine NA |
My buddies 9.0 Rotors maybe 170whp, that was ported. I am betting he will get 150whp carbed on a stock TII Block.
|
that is a reasonable estimate, I think we can all agree its a step backward.
|
It's not necessarily a step backwards based on what he wants.
I am selling my T2, but i am also picking up a GTUs. Why? Well i just like n/a rotaries better, and also for a turbo model i will always want to upgrade to the next power level. With an n/a you hit that barrier quickly and you have to think out of the box if you want to squeeze out more power. |
what if i go n/a with itb's? anyone have that set up?
|
ps ill be keeping the turbo parts for when i rebuild the engine
edit: though i do have alot of extra parts if anyone needs something |
