Ok so long story short.

I built this motor almost a year ago. After a few deployments, i finally get it pieced together and take the car to a buddy to do paint work. We end up finally wiring the microtech fully and giving it a try. After several days of fuel pump and wiring issues, we finally got it to crank. Couldn't get a good idle due to fuel tuning, and we had it almost running good tonight.

Last week, we burned up a starter by turning it too long. Got a new reman starter and popped it in today. Made strange noises compared to a stocker. Found out we had a spare TII starter and tried it. Started good for about an hour (not constantly starting, taking breaks). All the sudden when the motor started, and we got it about 2krpms (just a guess), the motor had a sound as if it was supercharged, a whining sound. After trying to start it a few more times to troubleshoot the sound, it turned into a grinding noise coming from the drivetrain area. Its not a metal grinding noise, its the noise such as when you drift over into the shoulder on a highway with the grated noise makers to keep you awake.

Like a rubbing noise almost.

I really hope i didn't destroy a bearing or something in the motor. We opened all access ports in the bellhousing. The clutch is disengaging good by the looks. We tried this with 2 starters to see if the starter was making the noise.

All of the bearings are new (Throw out, pilot).

Any idea??

Thanks in advance.

Here's a sneak shot :-)

If the pilot bearing is install incorrectly it could cause a grinding noise. I install a clutch with new bearings but i install the pilot bearing wrong and cause a bunch of grinding noise. Just a thought

I think im going to pull the tranny tomarrow, hopefully ill see if anything is wrong in there.. it just doesn't seem like it would go out like that.

Thanks for the input.

Compression is still good on the motor. I'm just wondering if its possible if the transmission would make a noise like that with the clutch petal pressed.
