Transmission Question: Crashed, now transmission is messed up. Options?

The car is an S5 N/A 'Vert.

I crashed into a van, no frame damage or anything.

But now, even in nutral, the transmission is in gear.

So we had to remove the driveshaft to tow the car.

I can only shift into first and second gear, but that doesnt seem to change anything.

My questions:

1) Is this easy to fix? (I've never been inside a transmission before)
2) Will I be able to swap parts over from my spare S4 transmissions (Shift forks and such)?
3) While I'm in there, should I do the synchros? If so, where can you buy these?

Failing all that, I will just bolt on the spare S4 transmission I've got (I dont even know if it is a good transmission)

TIA!

The crash impact has simply popped in a gear selection inside.
I suspect it's in 4th.
Sometimes you can pull out the gear that is engaged by selecting the gear next to it forcing the lever to pull both out together.

If it's stuck in 4th, put it in 1st, pus hard right & forward to push both out.

I've tried forcing the shifter around, but I'll give it a shot again. It WAS in fifth gear on impact.

I will try what you said this afternoon. Thank you very much!

EDIT: I'm guessing this also suggests that even if I cant force the gear selection, I can pop open the tranny and just pop the gear selection out?
