Transmission fluid capacity

What is the fluid capacity of the S4 TII transmission (i.e. how many quarts of oil do I need to buy)?

2.6 quarts for a turbo transmission, ~2.5 or so for N/A.

your best bet is go to an auto parts store like pep boys and buy a gallon of GL-5 and one of those pumps that screw right onto the gallon jug, it has a hose with a special end on it the sticks into the fill hole on the side of the tranny. the end is made to fit in the hole and stay there by itself so you can use both hands to hold the jug and pump the pump. this is the easiest way to do it. and when you fill it make sure you jack up all 4 corners so the car sits level then pump the fluid in until it starts to run out of the fill hole, then you know its full. also keep in mind i have ran into some fill plugs that where hard as hell to get lose! some of them are very tight so be prepared for that possibility. get the correct size wrench dont try to use an adjustable wrench.

If you can't find a cheap screw pump or need to fill the transmission NOW with no waiting, then try this approach:

Honestly, I find it easiest to fill the transmission via gravity. Just feed the hose down from the driver's side the firewall, feed the hose into the fill port, and pour it in with a funnel from the engine bay.

if you are going to fill up the tranny, use GL-4 fluidlLike Redline MT90.

GL-5 will ruin the bronze component of the tranny faster (atleast thats what I know from reading various forum post)

I found the post here

thats how i do it. same with the diff. funnel and a hose is all you need.

I also use the hose and funnel method. Some 5/8" heater hose works well, and it doesn't take that long. It took less time than filling my engine with 5 quarts of lower weight oil.

Thanks for the specific first post... exactly what I needed to know, how much oil do I need to buy to fill the tranny?

I've done it before, but don't recall how much it used. I've got three quarts but don't want to get another if I don't need it.

FWIW, I've been using Amsoil in my tranny, but I'm making the switch to Redline.

Gravity feed fro the engine bay to the tranny is the easiest and cheapest way to fill the tranny. For the diff, I just take out the fuel pump cover and stick the hose through there lol.

2.6q for a turbo, 2.5q for a n/a if I remember
