transmission differences for fcs
can anyone help me out?
wondering what differences (if any) are between the tII tranny, and the n/a tranny, of any year for the fc.. is there any transmissions from another vehicle (if applicable) that you can fit on a n/a 13b fc? im not familiar with transmissions and mazdas.. i know GMs (FWD vehicles anyways) have a wide variety of trans you can swap (cookie cutter cars, right? ;) N-bod J-bod A-bod etc trannies are usually all swapable), ones with different ratios for more accelleration or more top end or whatever.. just trying to figure out if the same things are possible with any stock mazda transmissions with an 86 n/a 13b fc. |
oh, btw.. keep in mind im talking about standard transmissions only.. i dont really care too much about the automatic tranny differences..
thanks again guys! :) |
The NA and TII transmissions have the same bolt pattern for the engine, so either will bolt onto either type of engine. However, the starter is different, and the clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, and rear end are of different diameters, so you need to change the entire drivetrain as a unit, or make custom components.
Other transmissions which will work are the HKS Dogmission race transmission ($7,000 USD) and the PBS MDR-1 race transmission ($6,000 USD). With appropriate custom adapters, you can use more common transmissions like the T-5, T-56, T-10, etc. |
so if I have an S5 N/A and have a complete TII driveline from flywheel to rear end, that tranny will bolt directly to my N/A engine? (until i get the TII engine of course:))
i am concerned primarily with the 2 upper-passenger side bolts, they seem a different distance apart. i only ask cause i would like to bolt it up once i get it so i can sell my N/A driveline and to have to store the TII stuff while waiting for the engine. |
also, after looking at the TII tranny gear ratios, it looks as if it help accelerate a little quicker. am i correct?

please?

To answer your 2nd question, the 5 speed from a B2200 truck will do nicely on your NA.

from a b2200? what mods does it take to bolt one of those up (if any)?
