Traction

How in the hell do i get traction from first to second and off the line?

RyosuketurboFC 01-22-03 11:34 PM

get a bad ass carbon clutch and start slippin away

RX7withNitrous 01-22-03 11:52 PM

well like when i go into second from first the whole back end just gets sideways.

RyosuketurboFC 01-22-03 11:56 PM

hmmm well you can always just feather it into second instead of dropping the clutch...

Terrh 01-22-03 11:59 PM

Buy an N/A :)

Actually, that might not help, since I've been in one that had similar problems to you :)

Seriously, though, don't DUMP the clutch when shifting into 2nd. Shift quickly, and let the clutch out quickly, but don't dump and nail the gas... Shift, let out clutch, apply throttle. Roll onto the throttle. The idea is to be quick, but smooth.
Slicks might help, too :)

Stickies are not that expensive and have the added bonus of improving your launch, too.

Actually, read this:

Get drag radials and heat the fuck out of them before the race, you should beable to cut a 1.8 60' with them. Probably better w/ slicks.

Train yourself to more gentle with POWER.
This is the fun part.

(Maybe next year I'll have a turbo also)

Change your tranny mount to a solid type, and weld your diff mounts in soild, this will help get rid of alot of wheelspin and wheelhop, but when it hooks, its fuckin gone

when it hooks? you mean when the wheels quit burning rubber and begin to get your car moving, right?

Watch out for that first corner!

slicks are the only way to go for improved traction....
weight transfer is a key part too...

for the street drag radials....

It didn't help stop the endless spinning but did stop the wheel hop I was getting. It also feels alot more tighter and when you smash it, it just seems to react faster now.

And to Mr Samps about corners.. It not a problem at all, 120 in sweeping turns is a breeze, Also making the mounts solid has helped me with my drifting, and its easier to control now...and more predictable

I 2nd the replace all bushings. I probably wouldn't go solid (ie metal blocks) but a stiff rubber or urethane should work. Don't forget the motor mounts and all the bushings in the rear suspension. Get some wide meats and play with your air pressure. Making the chassis more stiff can't hurt either. Rear strut tower brace, 2 part foam in the *frame* rails. Have fun.

i guess i can just shift slower.....it just seems wrong though. Cause i've been driving that n/a for like a year and shifting fast was all i had.
