tracking problem
 

Hello Everyone,
New to the forum and the world of rotaries.

I bought my 88 n/a a couple of months ago and after driving it for a while, I've observed the following problem that I've never really had before: when I drive the car on roads that are not mirror smooth, I notice that the it doesn't drive straight; it tends to suddenly veer too the left or right, and just as sporadically, will come back to a straight line.

I've made two hypotheses (sp?) on this problem: either the wheels are too sensitive to grooves in the road, or the car is VERY sensitive to crosswinds.

Am I off the mark with my thoughts? Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a problem only with my car's steering / suspension / tires, or is this common to the FC?

Any help would be appreciated.

you most likely need an alingment. And if not maybe your rear bearings are shot and need replacing.

Bring it to a trusty mechanic ( doesnt need to know about roraties as suspension is the same for all cars )

And get bearings, tie rods, ball joints inspected , then maybe buy DTSS eliminators , and then an alingment .

She shall me fine after that.

Remember its almost a 20 year old car. So alot of items get worn out.

Unless the wheels & tires are way off stock dimensions, a 4-wheel alignment is what it needs.

The other possibility is some frame damage.

If something is shot or the alignment is that screwed, it would do it ALL the time, not just on bad roads.

Can you tell us what kinda tires are you running?
I bet the tires are more prone to tracking grooves due to their tread pattern. :P
If the tire has a lot of circumferencial grooves, it tends to track grooves in the road more. :(
