TPS question
 

Using the resistance method as prescribed by reted I had some slightly confusing results. First of all with the tps unplugged from the harness resistance would never go down past ~1200ohms at "idle" and the tps was always ~6000ohm at wot. No amount of adjustment via the adjustment screw on the front of the tb would change these numbers. So then I thought hmm maybe its supposed to be plugged into the harness so I plugged it back in and at "idle" I was getting ~1100 ohms but then at wot I wasnt seeing anything over ~2500ohms and again no amount of adjustment would remedy this. So my question is, are these symptoms of a bad tps or did I somehow miss something?

Please tell me you're not trying to get resistance readings with power on the TPS...

Your 6K ohm at WOT is in the ballpark...the plunger would have been off of the linkage at that point, right?

Might try the voltage check, either at the green/red wire (or something like that) to ground, or at the ECU...Voltage readings will be more stable for you, and are easier to interpret...Looking for about 1v at warmed-up idle (Mine runs best at .9 for some reason...)

yeah the plunger was off the linkage at 6-7ohms, and no im not that stupid the power wasnt on. I was just saying that I was getting completley different readings depending on whether or not the tps was plugged into the harness. Basically my only question is does it sound like my tps has shit out?

You're going to get different readings with the connector hooked up to the harness- you're reading back through the circuit. You have to isolate any component or circuit to get an accurate resistance reading.

Basically I'd say no, 1.2K at idle, and 6K at WOT are in the ballpark. If you had no dead spots anywhere, I'd call it good. You just seemed so confused about how to take the readings, I was trying to explain to you how to do it right- are you always this sarcastic to people who try to help you?

That wasnt meant to be sarcastic, sorry if it came off that way. It was pretty much my fault for not being very clear at first so I was just attempting to clarify ;) More than the readings being off I was concerned with the tps refusing to be fine tuned. Again sorry if you thought I was trying to be a dick.

Clip on your meter.
Pull the throttle open & work the TPS plunger through its full stroke by hand.
The meter should sweep smoothly from near 0 to about 6K ohms.

If it's out of range - it's bad.

Before you replace it, try some spray contact cleaner.
It may just be dirty inside.
