Ask Kevin Landers, and he will tell you that if your car runs fine without it, then your better off. Me personally, I would rehook it back up and keep it. Its there for a reason.

The S4 ECU is actually very good at running the engine without the TPS. (Unlike the S5 that goes into limp mode) It is "ok" to run with it unplugged.

Your gas mileage will suck and you'll loose some power though.

I'd recommend you find a used one to replace it

Every S4 I have attempted to run without a TPS (some by accident, some on purpose) has fallen flat on it's face at anything more then 1/4 throttle. The car just shudders, sputters and almost "hits a wall".

Find whatever problem is causing your TPS issues (bad TPS, wiring error, etc.) and fix the car properly.

I agree with the rest of the guys. My tps has been off just a bit and the idle and performance has sucked. I can't imagine running without one.

The car will run with TPS disconnected but is is a bad idea because the ECU will default to a "full" throttle position (meaning not idle position, meaning past 20-30% travel, meaning not actual full throttle, well you get the idea).

this will do two things:
- the ecu will be greatly confused especially at idle
- the mpg which is already poor with a well tuned car will get worse

Can someone post a pic of an S4 TPS?

http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-6.htm

picture not that great but it's like the s5 one except you only have plunger thing (other one on s5 is for mop)
