Hi all. Well hears the problem. My car wont move. Hears the story. I was driving alone fat dumb and happy on my way to london. When i notieced that the temp was going way up. I was also having to push the car up in the rpms to keep speed. So I pulled over on one of the off ramps. Popd the hood and the smell was perty bad. I wated till the temp droped and thought i could get on the old number 2 high way and limp home slowely. When I went to put her in gear she wouldn't move. It just revd. So I called a tow. The driver said it smelled and sounded from what I said to be the clucth. Does that sound right from what I've said. And if so what will it cost to fix. I'm not that good at doing that kind of stuff. I do love her but if it's something that's very costly I might just pack it in for a ...... mini van :(

clutch jobs are pretty simple. you can do one with only simple tools, a set of jack stands, and a strong friend. If you take it to a shop it'll cost you, but the trans isn't very hard to get at as opposed to a FWD car, so it shouldnt be that bad. If you get a used clutch they are super cheap, new aren't bad either if you get an exedy or ACT or spec or something. My first ever major work on a car was a clutch job, and i managed it in under a week. I just did one recently and it only took me an afternoon, So I would go for it if you have the time and a garage.

I have a rather muddy dirt driveway. Also I forgot to mention that the car stalled out. Any way I'm guessing that it does sound like the clutch then? Some more confromtion would be good. I like knowing what I'm saying when I been it to a shop so I don't sound like an idoit.

Also, is this auto or manual?

and have you tried putting the car in gear before starting? what happens after that? (assuming its a manual)

i'd say something to do with' you drive shaft or behind it but maybe im just spit balling if it was you're clutch you be grinding the hell out of every gear you try to put it in

yes it's a manual. sorry for not posting that. There's no grinding now..... it did (before this) grind going into revers. It just doesn't do anything it's like the engion isn't conected to the drive train.

maybe one of your driveshafte ends cracked and broke? maybe your diferintials effed up? idk jack it up and look at your rear end

Having a blown clutch will still let you go into gear. But the over heating part makes no sense, if the clutch went out driving. Where you driving normal on the highway? (driving at a steady speed or driving faster than usual)

With the car grinding going into gear would be syncros with all my experiences.

With a blown clutch I could go into gears WITHOUT pressing the clutch in and I could shift throw all the gears and reverse... (No life in the clutch, just metal to metal contact now..)

I'm pretty sure his drive shaft is fine, I mean he WAS driving it. The car DID stall on him.

To the OP first check to see why you overheated. Maybe, some how oil got to the clutch disc?? But you stating that you had to keep it up in RPM does indicate that your clutch started slipping or is toasted. But im really curious to why you started to overheat...

well i took it in to a shop. I can't realy jack it up myself right now. (dirt drive way and all the melted snow as trunded it into mud). It is the clutch. They said they could fix it for $800 oem or $600 aftrermarket. I'm pulling it off the road now. I can afford it buy I'd rather save up for a few months and buy a nicer DD. I think maybe I'll try to use this as a project car.
