Torsion Springs
 

ok well i bought calipers here on the forum for the rear of my 87 TII.

the e-brake didnt work on my old calipers (locked up) so i figured just buying some used ones that work. the guy i bought them from, wont mention his name, said his e-brake worked but his calipers were locked up also so im sure it wasnt working. even if it got locked up in the 2 days while it was in transit then the brake would not have released because the old torsion springs that pull it back have no spring left.

anyways im over that as i got the e-brake to release (after some oils and greases), and its all set now. the brake grabs but does not release. the torsion spring that releases it has no spring anymore and i need to find out where i can buy some without getting a whole new caliper. auto parts store cant get them, neither can my local hardware store, or home depot, or sears hardware.

does anyone know somewhere specific where i can get some springs that will work, or some other way to make the brake release?

You are probably best of finding some good used calipers. Otherwise you'll need to find a really good hardware store or an industrial supply house that carries a lot of springs. You may even need to take a regular tension spring, cut out a piece and form new ends.

yeah its not looking good. i might ending forking over another 70 bucks for new calipers....oh well...

If you want piece of mind, rebuilding the rear calipers yourself isn't too hard. Not sure about locating new e-brake springs through.
