Tofuball port

1 Attachment(s)
I just like to say jason (tofuball) is a real good dude, this should sorta go in the good guy bad guy section but it wasn't really a sale.. I paid him to port my wastegate he did a real nice job, i like it alot, i'm here to praise him and ask is this big enough its about an inch wide but an inch is about 25mm(correct me if i'm wrong) is that big enough to stop creeping, i'm just confused because i know brian at BNR makes 35mm ports but this looks sufficient to me?

Juiceh 02-15-06 07:16 PM

damnit I thought this was gonna be about some crazy never before seen porting job....

tjeter 02-15-06 07:21 PM

sorry to disappoint i'm just comparing to make sure i'm safe i blew my engine because i didn't have the WG ported before, it's still a nice job.

turtles87rx7 02-15-06 07:50 PM

yah i thought it was gonna be a new porting job/idea

tjeter 02-15-06 07:57 PM

damn well its too late for me to edit the title, shoot, i didn't think it would be this misleading.

staticguitar313 02-15-06 08:09 PM

lol, looks good, 25mm should be enough, i think i might go nuts and do 30 or 35 though, but i'm paranoid and will be turboing a 6-port block

tjeter 02-15-06 08:18 PM

i hope this is good enough, its on a hybrid turbo (not from BNR), but the WG wasn't ported, so i had to get that done before we put it on the new motor.

turtles87rx7 02-15-06 10:59 PM

hey staticguitar what kind of turbo setup are you going to use?? custom manifold?? aaroncakes method?? or are you going to do soemthing different??

RotaryEvolution 02-15-06 11:33 PM

i'm not saying a word or the wg porting police will jump on my ass.

RETed 02-16-06 04:48 AM

Anybody can drill a hole...
It's what's been done behind it that make more of a difference.

I know exactly what Karack and Ted are thinking. I can see lots of metal that shouldn't still be there, like this...

Aaron Cake 02-16-06 08:57 AM

That's pretty small...You can go much larger to almost 40MM if you weld on another flapper. I can't see that small a port helping when teamed up with an open intake and exhaust. Porting the back side as ReTed mentioned is very important as well to allow proper flow.

Tofuball 02-16-06 09:39 AM

Hey, I told you, you prolly wont creep with your setup, and I told you I'd make it bigger if you still had creep issues :P

And the back side IS ported :p

That one the port is a LITTLE too close to the thread boss for my tastes :p

And, why would somone make a nice big port like that and still leave the 'sharp' edge next to it? :-p

S4.5RX7 03-04-06 08:38 PM

The funny thing to this whole thread TJ is that you're missing the whole point to why your engine blew. You've talked about boost creep ever since your car started running rough, just because as you told me "I read it on the forum that this COULD be my problem". From the point I first fixed all the mess you made with the RTV all over and inside your intake manifold, I told you to be careful and not mess with too much that you don't fully know about. Then you called me on my cell, I believe it was while I was at christmas dinner with my girlfriend, asking about a hesitation and rough running again. I told you again to be careful, don't run it hard, and bring it to the shop and we'll look at it. You complained about it costing too much. Time goes by and your car finally comes into the shop. I did a bunch of re-seals under the manifold, including a fully snapped vaccum line and several very loose shitty vinyl vaccum lines I replaced with silicone or rubber ones. Car didn't get any better so I compression tested it and found you had a dead apex seal. Now listen carefully now, cause I told you then but you still won't listen. (People who truely understand the operations of these cars will get this part): Due to the broken vaccum line and several loose others, you caused a too-lean operation. When you have a vaccum leak (or several in your case), the MAF doesn't detect the additional air being allowed into the engine causing you A/F to lean out. The MAP sensors in 2nd gens don't have enough pull on the fuel trim to detect/correct the situation and richen it up enough to a safe level. You continued to drive it (and according to some who drove with you that I talked to, continued to drive it hard) while it was breaking up bad under boost, and caused detonation to occur............destroying that apex seal. The dreaded boost creep that you continually talk about was also probably occuring due to you running such a wide open intake/exhaust, but how do you know without a boost guage? You don't. One way or another, the boost creep that may have been occuring was; A: probably not signifigant enough to notice or not happening at all with your full set-up, B: Not what caused your engine to blow, the detonation was. If the boost creep was occuring slightly, the vaccum leak only made it 10 times worse. This is not an attempt to make you look bad or attack you, I'm just trying to get the point across to you that I've been trying to do since I first met you..............DON'T MESS WITH THINGS YOU DON'T FULLY KNOW ABOUT, AND LISTEN TO SOUND ADVISE THATS BEEN GIVEN TO YOU BY PEOPLE WHO'VE ACTUALLY SEEN YOUR CAR IN PERSON AND KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. This forum is full of knowledge, but you can't believe or trust everything from everyone on here. You told me you thought it was boost creep based on what you heard on here, I told you otherwise and to be careful, you continued to drive the car with problems, now you've paid the money for a mazda re-man engine with Ray................next time listen and trust in advise from someone who knows your exact car.

By the way, this is Kyle if you haven't figured it out.

91verty 03-04-06 09:28 PM

Very well said my man....very well said.

Bryan@BNR 03-05-06 11:46 AM

So you guys want something new huh? I know of a way to get an extremely large port on the S4 and S5 turbos just haven't done it yet :D and it will make my 35mm port look tiny.

Show me :)

RotaryEvolution 03-05-06 12:59 PM

does this "mod" include a tampon in any way?

slpin 03-05-06 02:22 PM

the funny thing is.. kyle forgot that the car has an AFM before the turbo...
afm detects 20lb of air... the vacuum leak turns into boost leak when it is boosting... car gives 20lb of air... 18lb of air going into car...
vaccum lines/etc would, if anything, make the car run richer...

maybe it was a good idea he didnt listen to your "advice" when you "know about his exact car" ???

X2, nice thing about vacuum leaks, they turn into boost leaks under pressure which will cause the car to go rich not lean. the only downside to this is the timing is still further advanced than it should be in comparison to the load the engine is seeing, however with the lowered boost level the timing is a moot point.

tjeter 03-06-06 04:26 PM

this thread is old kyle, but i do understand that all now once i kept reading up on it once it happened, because i remembered what you were saying about the big vacuum leak you found, i was just being dumb and once the car started acting up i didn't drive it hard because it wasn't driving correctly, all the times the stuff happened i'd get it down there as soon as possible or just not drive fast, I'm sure Ian was probably the one who told you that but he doesn't even know half the things that have gone on with this engine, and he never rides w me so he probably rode with me when it was ok, i dont know about that one, but oh well.. But i was partially correct about it being boost creep, it was too lean a condition and the boost creeping i undersand that part now. Alot of the things you said, i understand now and you live and you learn, i should have done something about it but i didn't so you live and you learn, and now i've come out of this ordeal with alot more knowledge than before. O ya thanks for that tip on fixing that line, also i gave you a call today to tell you not to worry about the knock computer i got ahold of one thanks anyways, but i don't really see why there was any reason in making a comment in this month old thread when we live in the same city less than 5 miles apart. well anyways thanks for all the help man i'm sure i'll see you around.
