todays fun with the car
got up this morning, drove for 45 mins to heat up my new 3" cat I had installed in my RB turbo exhuast last week. went to emmisions test and passed easily with stock intake, air pump/acv/ split air hooked up. RB exhuast with 3" cat, and g-force ecu.
Came home and riped out the air pump, intake, and stock TID. and went to work :). built a 3" TID out of ABS from home depot, and stuck on a K&N cone. http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/TID/tid1.jpg http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/TID/tid5.jpg http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/TID/tid6.jpg Having the TID and cone on is a definatly inprovement over the stock airbox! but it's super loud! from inside the car the intake sucking is louding then my RB exhuast now. with the RB exhuast with 3" cat, TID, and cone I'm hitting about 9psi in 4th on my 89. before with no cat and stock airbox I was hitting 10. so the cat kills creep a good amont. my main reason for putting it on was so I could build an intake :) (don't want to go over 10psi) I also added Rob golden's "yahho belt", thanks to Blake Q for proving the inf and helping me find one this week (yes I did get one :) ) http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/belt/belt1.jpg http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/belt/belt2.jpg it's a "3L220" belt that goes between the main pully and water pump where the air pump belt went. It takes a bit of effert to get on since there is no tensior, but a few mins of work and it was on. probably have to cut it to get it off though. This is to prevent the water pump from sliping since the alternater belt barly touches the water pump. |
what did you use to slip the belt on??
by the way that is F**king awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you soooooo much |
get the belt fully onto the bottom pulley. and you can just start the belt on the top one. just turn the motor by hand with a wench or something and it'll pull itself on. just like putting a chain onto a bike.
I have a write up on my page now :D |
oh i get it.
sweet you just saved me a bunch of money Justin |
That "yahoo" belt is great!! I wish I had thought of that!! Gotta do that to my car now. Thanks!!
|
I've corrected myself since. but the correct thing is "yoohoo" belt LOL.. I don't know..
|
what line is it that you have tapped into the bend in your TID? when i did mine, there wasnt anything to tap in, i think. is it an 89+ thing cuz mines an 87
|
Wow, today was sure fun for you!
What's tomorrow? |

Sweet! You live in West Van heh? We should get together and you can shop with me for an RX-7. I am buying an N/A but I don't know what to look out for. I currently have my eyes on an 87 GX....
You can also show me how to do that TID mod thing. I have an extra 3" K&N filter sitting in front of me! :D |
U cant do the TID mod with a n/a. But if u really want to do the TID mod buy a TII and then u can do it. Take a ride in a TII and take one in the n/a. If money isnt too big of a deal i would highly recomend a turbo instead.
I owned my n/a for 8 months and i found the power got boring after a couple months of driving. I dont see how my new turbo car will every feel boring to drive. well thats just my point of view. |

Originally posted by Scott 89t2 hmm, mine has 2 stock. but I'm only using one. I thought the 87-88 came with one line. plus both have the BOV as well. is that how it works? i originaly had a line tapped in to my old TID for my stock BOV. but now i have a blitz so i dont have that any more. i guess thats why i have none going in. i guess that other line you have goes to something the 87s dont have. |
thanks scott! I swear I seached for a page like that but couldn't find any. Now that you gave me the link, I thi8nk I can find an excellent 7.
BTW, there is NO Turbo 7 for sale in West Coast of Canada. I looked.. |
lol well i just got mine on saturday. I will make a new thread with the pics etc..
i know of one for sale in white rock. his name is Brian P on this board PM him. |

i went to pep boys today and they had a XX225. and an XX215. i dont remember what was in place of the X's but i got the 225 on and it was too loose, I couldnt get the 215 on at all. i also couldnt get the whole fan clutch off because i was afraid i would round over all the nuts. i got the 225 on by removing the fan from the clutch, slipping the belt over the clutch and pulling it through the fan, slipping it partly on and bumping the starter. it went on fine but was wayyy too loose, i tried to put the 215 on the same way but it was wayyy to tight. pep boys didnt have a 220 and everything closed at 6 on memorial day so tomorrow i will check advance, autozone, and the local hardware store.
if you could give me a brand name that might help thanks Justin |
Hmmm, I just took a look at your TID pics, and wanted to say I'd check it out every once in a while to be sure that the "plumbing" reducer isn't melted to your Turbo. I did the same thing about 2 years ago, and after a week I ended up ditching the reducer and dropping $20 or so on a 3" to 2" silicone one that a honda tuner in town had. Those reducers are not made to handle high temps.
