Tires for 87 RX-7...New to forum

I recently purchased a 87 RX-7 Sport and I'm in need of new tires. What size can I run on the 15" rim and what type of tires do you all recommend? I plan on driving this in the snow, but I would like a good tire for "playing" around. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I just bought a set of Pirelli P6000's, 205/60 R15.

Excellent tires, wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. Another good option would be the Yokohama AVS Intermediate. You can't really go wrong with either tire, unless you want them to last a long time.

The Yoko's have a tread wear rating of 160 and the Pirelli's are 180.

Take it from someone who drives his seven year round, I'd recommend getting two sets of tires, one for winter and one for summer. I went the all-season radial route, and I regret it.

Just out of curiousity, how did you find the driving in the winter? Add any weight in the rear to keep it planted?

Last winter I added a couple of 50lb sandbags to the car. Car could usually go through about 6" of snow...any more than that and it bottomed out and well...that wasn't much fun.

My only advice...watch for your brakes freezing on your rotors...had to use a hairdryer several times to unlock them...
