j/w, do most people go with wider tires on the rear for fc's? what sizes are most popular? are there any disadvantages to this? thanks.

I want 245's on the back but I think thats as big as you can go easily.

I think most people keep the tires the same size front/rear. With the stock suspension setup, I don't see any real reason to have wider tires on the rear. 225 is a pretty standard width that people with FCs go with. That's not to say you can't do other things.

Most people put larger rears on for looks, or because they want to control wheel spin off the line with high horespower. With a normally aspirated car or a stockish TII I can't immagine why you'd go larger in the rear, there's no advantage. It'll handle better with equal tire sizes front and rear, plus you can rotate the tires. I've got 225/45/17's all round and it still understeers, so larger rear tires will only make it worse. Also the smaller the tire, the cheaper it'll be. 225's are about as big as you can go with the stock suspension, some run 235's with no problems, other people with that setup have rubbing issues, it really depends on the tire and the offset.

I have heard you can fit up to 275s in the rear but I only have experience with 255s in the rear. Not problems with rubbing except you have to bend the exhaust heat shields or remove them.

the main point to putting larger tires in the rear for most people is looks... because so many people seem to think that rx7's are drag cars... I put 17x7.5's all over and 245-40/17's all over and my car handles like a beast... it also eliminated any oversteer/understeer with my suspension the way it is.

How'd you fit 245s up front? Coilovers? Not that I would but just curious.

Yes, I'd be curious too on how you fit 245/40/17's up front. Also that's an awfully wide tire for a 7.5 inch wide rim, it must bulge out like crazy.

Let alone on a 7.5" wide rim, there isnt much clearance up front.
