Tips for driveshaft removal?
 

Having problems with removing my driveshaft. I sprayed the bolts with some penetrating lube used two braker bars and the damn things wont come loose. Anybody have any tricks that worked for them besides using air tools? Thank for the help.

Heat them with a torch and use an impact driver; they're only $10 to buy.

This may seem like a dumb question but question, but you're talking about the 4 small bolts that hold the driveshaft to the diff right? The reason I ask is that they really shouldnt be torqued on too tightly. If its giving you that much trouble then I say just keep pulling until you break the bolts. Also if you have a pipe that will fit around the breaker bar handle or maybe even a large wrench then slip it over the end of the breaker bar to extend the length of the handle so you'll have more leverage and can use less force to break the bolts loose. You can also try heating the bolts a little with a lighter, make sure you dont have any fuel leaks first tho.

I even used a 24 inch breaker bar and the damn things wont come loose. I think someone took it off before and used red locktite on it. I will try the heat when i get a chance tomorrow.

They are always really hard to remove, due to corrosion.
Torque-spec on them is 36-43 ft-lbs, not all that much.

Also... you do have the E-Brake on while you are trying this right????

I build these cars privately for high performance street and race use, so I have dealt with more than a couple of these things.
If the driveshaft has never been removed before, then its a pain to get the bolts off if you're use hand tools (I use air tools).
If the driveshaft has come off before, its always easy to take the nuts off again.
20 years of corrosion do that to a car...

There has never been any evidence of factory loctite on any I have removed.

OK, damn, dont blow a gasket. Wasn't shooting at your abilities or anything. I've delt with more than a couple myself on more than one type of vehicle and I've almost always used hand tools but still have never had much of an issue removing a driveshaft and thats all there was to it.

There is no inclination of anger in my post whatsoever, nor does it exist. I was stating where I gathered my personal experience from so that it was known that I was giving first hand knowledge.
I never said you were shooting my abilities. I neevr even implied anger. If you meant to shoot at my abilities, I didn't take notice.

A lot of mustangs also seem to have tough-to-remove driveshaft bolts. Gotta make sure you have the 12-point sockets handy for them...

make sure you mark the drive shaft before u take it off

bring it to a shop and ask them loosen them for ya
