Is this a timing problem?

when i accelerate hard in 3rd 4th or 5th gear the car bucks.

If i was to get on the highway and i was in third gear the car goes fine until about 4000 rpms. then it bucks about 5 times until 5000 rpms then its fine after that. it does the same thing in 4th and 5th. its only between 4000 and 5000 rpms though.

seems like it would be a timing problem to me but i could be wrong.

i adjusted my BAC and replaced a bunch of vaccum lines the other day so the car idles a lot better now but i started feeling the bucking the other day.

thanks for all your help but i might have found my own problem

haha i think its my O2 sensor. the other day the wire got ripped off by my friend on accident. i put it back on real quick but maybe i didnt do too good a job. ill just go to advance auto parts and pick up the 16 dollar one from bosch...hopefully this will fix my problem.

The O2 sensor isn't used at all under high load. It only does anything at light throttle cruise.

hmmm...so what could my bucking be caused by?

iceblue 06-16-05 04:07 PM

The o2 not hooked up will make for one shity cruis I know.

Sounds like a ground issue. I am guesing the one on the harness under the UIM that bolts to the rear rotor housing. Or the one that goes from the trany to firewall. Check these.

If you havent playd with your timing it is probly straight.

well it just started recently but it could have been after i disconnected my plug wires...maybe i just hit something on accident. bad to know that things in my engine bay are that delicate but...oh well.

ill do a ground check this weekend and hopefully that will fix the bucking because its a little annoying when i wanna get up and GO and i cant...

Uhhhhh... I haven't had a functioning or hooked up O2 for about 6 months now, ZERO driving issues, 17mpg CITY, over 20 if I get on the freeway, and definitely not shitty.

MattB 06-16-05 05:32 PM

well...maybe you got lucky because when mine fell off my car didnt idle at all...its just started up went to about 1000rpms then turned off...

ddub 06-16-05 05:37 PM

Lots of other people have had similar experiences as me with running no O2.

MattB 06-16-05 05:40 PM

well i guess it could have been my vac leak that cause the idle problem then because i fixed both of them at the same time. but i figure it was the O2 just because the O2 sensor is supposed to tell the ECU to lean or richen the fuel i thought. oh well. if it works then it works i guess

I can not speak in comparison. When the 02 wire melted off the 13bt GTU I had to pull over and splice and wrap it together. I could barely get the car to go and drove/idled like ass. When I did this it cleard up. The I went and soderd a fresh wire onto the o2. But hey thats just one guys exsperiance on his o2.
