Time for a larger turbo- what does this require?
I have a bone stock 87 TII.
The turbo went out- and I found a used one on here- Now my friend blew his turbo- So Im letting him have this stock turbo. What turbo should I replace it with? Another stock, or one from an S5? Im doubting I can find a hybrid for $400 and be able to use it with stock everything else.... Otherwize...... What else can I do? Fuel controller, Walbro, fuel cut defneder? I already have a straight 2.5 to the stock mufflers. Thanks :). |
Ok...you cant just throw a bigger turbo on. Thats what the ricers do and thats why the ricers go BOOM. You need more fuel. If you want bigger, get BNR to mod your stock one.

Yes thats what I figured.
For a bigger turbo- It seems I would want a stand alone- walbro- 720, 580's- FMIC- Stock it is! Unless the S5 would be better??? |
If you want to stick with a stock turbo definately grab an S5 turbo and manifold. The wastegate is much improved and will help immensely with boost creep issues if you plan to ever mod your fc. Even if you plan to keep it stock, still get an s5 turbo.

If you get a S5 manifold you will need to get a aftermarket boost controller becaue the S4 uses a twin scroll manifold and the S5 doesnt. Unless youer planning on getting a Free flowing exaust, Intake, FCD and a boost controller like a ACVR (already up to $1500) put it back stock, because the actuator valve on the STOCK system is going to spool your "bone stock" turbo faster. You can get better than a S4 if you want to spend the $ but then why spend it on a S5.

Well, lets see- 2.5 inch down pipe into stock Y (for now)- K&n cone filter on a 2.5inch madrel bent pipe-
Walbro 255 fuel pump- V1.5 chip- And tell me more about boost controllers- I have $200 kickin around. |
