TII Transmission Identification Help
4 Attachment(s)
I ordered a rebuilt TII transmission from Pineapple Racing, but the one that showed up is different than the one I have. As far as I can tell, they are similar except......
I'm at a loss here. What the hell is going on?! |
One is probably an S4 and the other an S5. You can tell by the amount of ribs but I don't remember off the top of my head which is which. You could search for it though.
If the oil pans are ribbed, then its a TII trans. Looks like it is a different series TII from your old one, not a big deal, just use your old cross member and mounts....
OK, apparently the s4 has 8 bolts holding the bellhousing to the gearbox while the s5 has 10. Looks like the new one is an s4. Is one stronger than the other?
internally they should be the same except for the 5th gear...I think the series 5 the 5th gear is slightly shorter
the 2nd ans 3rd gear syncros on the s4 transmissions tend to be weaker than the s5s.
Just to back it up, the new one is definitely S4 & the old one is S5. Fewer ribs on the case = S4. I've also got one of each transmission.
5th gear ratio will be 0.762:1 for the S4 and 0.719 for the S5 unless one or both are J-spec. All J-specs have a 0.806:1 5th gear ratio. |
