TII seats vs regular FC seats?

I'm toying with the idea of putting FC seats in my FB. Is it worth upgrading to regular FC seats or should I only be looking for TII seats if I want better bolstering for the track?

Side note, if anyone has some for sale in red, let me know!

I've tried three different sets of FC seats (and at least three other aftermarket) and by far the best are the stock cloth seats from the 1990 GTU.
I don't know if/how they differ from other models but they are great.

Don't get leather for a track car, it's too slippery.

I'm looking strictly for red/burgundy cloth to match my burgundy FB interior. I currently have leather, and I basically pin myself between the door and console, plus they sit too high.

Found a base '86 pair on car-part that might work, seller hasn't gotten back to me.

Are the GTU seats the same as TII?

S4 or S5 GXL seats.

FC seats are famous for having a crushed driver-side bolster where the driver slides in and out of the car over time. The passenger side seats are typically in better shape because nobody wants to drive around with the crazy rotor-head and his noisy car. ;)

For racing, you are better off with a proper racing seat, harness, and roll cage that are approved and properly installed as per the safety requirements of your racing class.

If you're looking strictly for red interior, then you're stuck with S4 86-88 regular seats.

All the TII seats with the extra side bolster were either blue or black.

I don't think thats true. I feel like I've definitely seen some maroon T2 seats.

I have red leather GXL seats ('86), and they are pretty good. Hug you on corners, and they have a lumbar adjustment. But they are really heavy, so if you are tracking them a slimmer seat might be better.

944 seats, they may have some maroonish/brown color also. really good seats.

It's been a while since I've driven a 944, but I do remember them being quite comfortable. Might be just as hard to find. Do they mount right up?

clokker 09-05-17 12:46 PM

No seat besides stock will "bolt right up", especially on the passenger side.

Yup, like clokker said it wont go in there just like that.. dont know how comfy textile seats are, my friend has 944s2 with leather seats- super tight and awesome except they are leather, you'll stick on them on a hot day.

If you're considering 944 seats you'll want the sport seats. The base seats are comfortable but not anything that's going to hold you well on a track. I have the rare upgraded full cloth Porsche script seats in my 944 and they are wonderful for driving and do a fair job of holding you in place. The script sports seats are the holy grail IMO.

You can get TII seats in burgundy. They are very uncommon however but they will hold you in place well and are comfortable to boot. The S4 TII was available with grey, blue, and burgundy cloth. I believe that the 87 TII was the only model year you could get the burgundy TII seats however.

from what I remember of the few burgundy TII seats I've seen, they don't age well in terms of color. I really like the TII seats but the driver side left thigh bolster is always messed up.

chuyler1 09-07-17 10:41 PM

Thanks guys, I guess it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort for run of the mill FC seats and what I want is pretty hard to find for TII/GTU seats. 944 sport seats sound intriguing but if I'm gonna be messing with brackets, I might as well just go aftermarket.

Check out the 944 sport seats before you go aftermarket. They're marvelous!

it is, but its actually an easy fix. there is a bar that the foam goes over, and when you sit on the bolster the bar cuts the foam

there are actually plenty of aftermarket seat rails/brackets for the FC, so aftermarket seats can be a bolt in if you spend the money

I've got a 90 GXL with maroon interior.

Who makes them? Going to assume Bride from my 3 minute google search?

Oh, and I had a red interior in my TII. I'm now swapping it out with black. The only thing I'm keeping right now are the seats, they are in great condition.
