TII build, how should i do it.
 

hey i recently decided i only want one car and by selling my 2 i could get something better haha.

my thinking was i could get a TII with a blown motor. get it rebuilt with a port and and add some mods. hopefully trans lsd will be fine. Then throw on some coilovers and wheels.

My total budget will be about $7k so what mods do you think i should get and also this is going to be in California where emissions are a pain so it will need to be smog legal or easily put back to smog legal.

hey if you need to smog it then you are preaty limmited to the mods that you can do. unless you have some one who will do it for a couple hundred bucks like i used to but then moved to wyoming which has no emissions. Preaty limited because the cars i dont think even will pass with a port.

hmm really thats pretty gay. anyone else know for sure if a smog renders you useless on smog? haha will a new cat help haha... i've heard there is a crack down on friendly smoggers.

ok that helps but doens't answer question, like i said i know something can be comprismised and then put back on for smog its once every 2 years.... cuz honestly you can go to stage VI or Vi and convert back to stock without that much work. less than a day of work... but the question is with everything back to stock and the engine ported would it pass?

As long as you have a good catalytic, some kinda working air injection into the catalytic (i.e. air pump), and get the engine hot enough, it'll pass almost any smog / sniffer test.

Street ports have their limitations, and I'm pretty sure they will all pass.
Stepping up the bridge ports, the overlap is just too extreme, and I cannot guarantee they will pass - has anyone gotten a BP to pass a sniffer test???

ok, so ill try and figure that out porting question out.

so im going to try to get to Stage IV+ would this be advised for a daily driver? i dont drive alot but maybe 200miles a week tops and what would fuel consumption be not that 10mpg scares me haha and i would be willing to put the boost down for regular use...

for engine build what would i want street port and 3mm seals?

Don't forget about the crackdown going on in Cal right now. Cops are pulling over any people they suspect of having any aftermarket modifications that would violate smog and such, =\. Just make sure not to have any rice stickers or a giant wing, and they should leave you alone, xD;

haha :) i've never had a problem and i've had 3 modified cars, i dont like to draw attention to myself and im anti rice rocket status.

Any street port should pass...
You just need an air pump and a working catalytic.


Almost all of the stages are "streetable".
Gas mileage is a function of your right foot.
I used to get 25mpg+ on heavy freeway driving staying out of boost; once you go into boost, all bets are off. :P

I really don't believe in 3mm apex seals.
Notice, I don't even mention them in my listings...

also i was wondering If i get some kinda of high flow cat and keep the air pump would it really hurt performance? also i might just hallow out a cat with or something cuz its a $3000 fine to run straight pipe.

with 300-400hp will TII rear end and trans have any problems? Im not going to be drag racing much if at all, maybe get some auto-x and track time in but mainly daily drive. would this be alright on the engines reliability and how would the TII trans and rear end do would those require upgrades?

Well, for your budget I did this to my TII

Engine rebuild - new housings, RA rebuild kit, new oil pump, street ported, used front iron, used rotors

Haltech ek6 new, greddy fmic, hks bov, and all the tools, chemicals i needed. RB Turbo back exhaust, manual rack, new tranny mounts,

Granted Mazda Motorsports saved me a bundle.

Almost any catalytic will impose a restriction in the exhaust system.
Unless you want to make a custom cat set-up, most of the drop-in units are going to restrict your exhaust.
Restriction is bad when we're talking about performance, so yes, it will hurt performace.


The rear end will hold up as long as you don't do anything stupid.
Try to keep the drag launches to a minimum.
If you're talking street tires, this is not too bad, but STAY AWAY FROM WHEEL HOP!

ALL the emissions stuff, yeah, difficult. Air Pump and Cat, 30 mins of work. Remember on a rotary engine there are a shitload of little solenoids and doo-dads that attempt to make the car
'cleaner'.

So I guess it can be hard depending on how much emissions parts you remove.

haha i know this. well i would be looking to remove as little emissions as possible, to make it easier to put it back easily... yeah throwing in a real cat wouldn't be much work just stuff like that. haha ill smog it before i mod so ill get 2 years of fun before i worry anyways.
