TII brakes on 91' N/A: Help needed
Right now im in the market and soon going to buy a full set of TII brakes (calipers, rotors, and pads) that I hopefully will be installing on my 91' N/A coupe. From what i've read, the TII brakes bolt directly onto the 91' nubs. Im just woundering if I am correct or will I need to buy a set of TII hubs (please say I dont). Also, if theres anything eles that I need to complete this swap.
-Thanks, for the help, Andrew |
anyone, anyone?
p.s. that word after 91' should be "hubs" |
All you need for the swap are the calipers and rotors. You got 5-lug already so your all set there.
|
soft brake lines as well
|
why do you want to do this swap? are TII brakes an upgrade over the '91 N/A's ??
|
4 piston front brake, vented rear brakes from the T2 are alot better than the single piston front non-vented rear stock NA brakes.
|
that's odd.. I know for a fact my '91 N/A has 4 piston front brake calipers. I can't remember right now if the rear are vented or not though.
|
Verts have the 4pots on the NA's, yours a vert?
|
Four piston front brakes were available on N/As on one of the upgrade packages. My 91 N/A had the four piston front brakes. It doesn't have to be a vert for it to be an N/A with four piston front brakes.

Get stainless steel brakes for a TII(Soft Lines). You will also need the hard lines that go from the calipers to the struts. You can order them from a dealer for around $16
|
Sounds like JerryLH3 is correct since mine is not a vert :)
|
on my 91 it came with 4 piston brakes in the front.

I have a 91 GXL and have 4 pot fronts and vented rears. I found this out the hard way when I was buying rear calipers. I have a set of non-vented calipers "brand new" for sale if you need. I think that is pretty much the standard on brakes unless you have a 4 lug. I could be wrong though?
p.s. No i did not swap the TII brakes or anything, they were stock on my GXL |
Hey srry im already buyin vented rears from somone eles, but thank you anyway. One more question though, the short hard lines from the caliper to the shock, do i need that for the front and rear? Asking because I just called the dealer and they said the front ones would be $13.52each(no problem) and the rear ones would be $54.87each(damn expensive). Is is possible to get away with using the SS lines im buying(for TII calipers) and the stocks hard lines of my N/A rears. Thanks for the help.
-Andrew p.s. thanks to everyone who has posted, lots of good help |
You'll need the hard lines for the front only. Add the SS lines (front and rear) for a four piston setup and you're good to go.
|
I did this conversion earlier this spring. At a minimum you need:
1. Front 4-pot calipers 2. Rear vented rotors 3. Rear calipers for vented rotors 4. Hardlines between the flex lines and the caliper for the fronts Rear pads are the same, front pads are different. The rear hard and flex lines are the same between the setups (on the S5 anyway) Im not sure if you can reuse the flex lines on the front but since you are getting braided stainless lines for the 4-piston setup you dont need to worry about it. its a very straight forward install. the above only applies to S5 cars Also they did not have a GXL in 91 |
