Tie Rod Removal help!
 

Hey guys, so I'm prepping my car for a manual steering rack by removing my old power steering rack but I seem to have run aground at the tie rods. I removed the cotter pin and the nut that the pin was threaded through. Now I'm just left with what appears to be a simple "Pull down to remove tie rod end and be done with it" situation but the tie rod isn't budging. Is there some sort of trick or some other step involved that I seem to have forgotten about??
While I wait for responses I'm going to go soak it in PB Blaster and fish out the rubber mallet... When in doubt, beat it out!

BFG (big F***ing hammer), thread castle nut so it's flush with the end of tie rod (so threads don't mess up), hit it dead center, the end....

When I mean BFG, I mean BFG, don't try this with some home improvement hammer or rubber stuff : )

HIT THE Spindle part that surrounds the Tie rod..HARD..it should basically Pop the Tie rod out,since the tie rod's shaft is tapered.
Works for me,every time.

Also, place a pry bar between the spindle and steering gear close to the tie rod joint, exert some pressure and smash the spindle.

i always try hitting the knuckle part first before resorting to beating on the threads with a nut on it, it's pretty easy to mushroom those wussy things(even with the nut on).

Exactly!..you ever try to get the nut off once it is popped and the Nut will not come Off because you bashed the Threads???..Back to square one you go..and No Soup for you!

The knuckle trick works like a charm too! I guess it depends how stuck it is, i've had luck with them popping out by hitting the nut/tie rod and banging on the knuckle. Trying the knuckle first would probably be a smart idea if your worried about stripping the threads....

Pullers rip the boots or at least the majority of them.....
