throttle body upgrades??

i have a 1987 7 and I have been looking around for some extra horsepower. I was wondering if anyone knew of any throttle body swaps. I could bore it out, but I would rather just buy one and swap it. Thank you for your help.

Have you tried the TB mod yet? If you havent..try that first. I think the TB is actually a pretty good design minus the 2 extra shutters that are removed with the mod.

How do you do the mod?

Those are all tb's with fuel rails/injectors.
Notice one of the has wiggins clamps already installed for ic piping.
There is only as much fuel as you add. Seems kind of obvious, but sounds like you assume you have to put all 1600's in there.

Setips like these are really good for p-ports and semi-p-ports. They even offer a semi p-port lim, though only for re' and rew's.

Turbo II-FB 09-29-05 11:45 PM

what type of power gain you think you could get from that?

Turbo II-FB 09-29-05 11:46 PM

I heard from somone that if you use the FD UIM that you can expcet a 20 HP gain due to the better flow... Is that true?

Don't waste your time. I'm assuming you have an NA since you don't mention it being a Turbo. The TB is huge for the NA's output even when modded. Look how much power you can get from the same TB on a 13BT.

I could bore it out...
Actually I highly doubt you could. Go and have a closer look at a TB off the engine before you claim that. There isn't enough metal to remove to make a worthwhile difference.

Well if you have a turbo try this http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TBM/tbm.html

I hear those who dont have a turbo, really wont benefit from this mod.

RETed 09-30-05 03:23 AM

I bet it's an NA.
If so, you're wasting your time looking to upgrade the TB.
That's not your restriction.

Not worth the effort...every time I read that a N/A was thinking of this mod, they all are told the same...theres so many other things you can do though, thank GOD we have this site to lead the way.

RETed 10-02-05 01:46 AM

Actually, there are gains to be had, but there are a lot of other things you should upgrade before tackling the TB.
Check out Kahren relocation of the TB with a very heavily modded "intake manifold" in the dyno section?
This is the engine that made 195 to the wheels, I believe?

If you haven't already, do the exhaust, intake, CDI, lightened flywheel, and street port first - these will give you bigger gains for less money (well, except for the porting due to the rebuild).

ok. some other upgrades i was thinking about was maybe a turbo, cold air intake, header, custom bent exhaust, new ignition, new plug wires and some serious weight reduction. does anyone have any other ideas or recommendations? another question. will the stock motor take a turbo?

rx7jocke 10-02-05 06:47 AM

turbo and header??? could that be used in the same time?

gingenhagen 10-02-05 07:53 AM

if you want a turbo on your car, i would recommend selling your n/a and getting a turbo2 instead.
