Thinking of going turbo...

Ok I'm new to rotarys and initial driving impressions of the basically stock 13b in my 86 are that there is definitely a lack of power. I've had several boosted hondas and an ls1 powered 240sx and i'm clueless what size of turbo, and how much fuel to throw at this thing. I'll be using megasquirt and possibly ebay turbo. I'm looking for about 400hp. How will the stock engine respond to turbo? Should I rebuild and use turbo rotors, or should I swap to turbo II engine? This will be a daily driver and useless top end power right before redline is pointless. I have searched for as many hours as my eyes can take and no difinitive anwsers... Please help a newb out here. I'm thinking of an aeromotive a1000 or bosch044 fuel pump or single or twin walbro pumps if I can get away with that.

No rest for the wicked. Search and ye shall receive.

You will want a T4 frame turbo, something along the lines of 60mm mated to a P trim turbine wheel in a 1.0~ish turbine housing. Secondary injectors should be upgraded to 1600~ish + range, the new ID2000 injectors are good idea if you're not on a budget. The bosch 044 is a good pump, a single walbro will get you to 400hp too. Stay away from the Ebay turbos, they are junk. You would be best off swapping to a T2 engine, however you can boost the n/a engine. You just have to be careful on the tuning..

Turbos for the 400hp range: GT3540, T04B 60-1, T04E "60", TS04 (T58), T61.

The amount of fuel required will depend on the BSFC of the engine, which in turn depends a lot on the engine porting, boost level, and the quality of your turbo, intercooler (or ADI), and tuning. The fuel rail pressure will also affect the minimum size of the fuel injectors.

The cheapie Mexican and Chinese turbos are crap. Unless you are building a show car that doesn't need to actually run, I recommend sticking with a good brand such as Garrett or Turbonetics.

That is up to you. It is also fine to use NA rotors if you like. The amount of engine porting may affect which rotors you want to use.

Keep in mind that you will also need the entire TII drivetrain to support 400hp, so it may be cheaper and easier to simply sell your car and buy a TII to start with, or even just look for a 400hp TII that somebody else is selling for a loss.

Unless you just like overkill, an Aeromotive "700HP" pump is probably better suited for 400hp vs. the larger A1000. A single Bosch 044 or Walbro 255 should work fine.

I got the car for free and if I purchase the right components to get the car exactly where I want it I will still come out cheaper than buying another car and still putting work into it. As far as porting goes, I have ported hears with a good bit of success, but I dont really know where to start with a rotary. I have the majority of the tools needed to do the porting myself, but it has me very nervous reading all of the horror stories of porting gone wrong. I did see some mention of templates, which would probably make the job a lot simpler, I will check into that. Also what kind of a/f ratio should I shoot for on a wideband when tuning? Pig rich or a lillle closer to maybe 12:1?
