Thinking About doing the Throttle body mod on an 86 N/A need feedback
Hey guys...I am thinking about doing the throttle body mod on my 86 N/A..Do you guys recommend that...I have the 5th and 6th ports wired open...I am removing the air pump and getting the ACV and EGR Blocks and the Corksport Exhaust...I noticed a big difference in my Top end after wiring the ports open...Even ran a little smoother...P/S and A/C are removed...Heck I may even port my Intake manifold...It looks like it is easy to mess up so I might not..Also where can I get a good underdrive alternator pulley??

not sure about the tb mod, but you can get a pulley from mazdatrix or www.rx7.com i would go with the main drive pulley not the alternator but that i.m.o

If you noticed a big difference with the ports wired open, they probably weren't working. The ports wired open on a normally functioning engine equals less low-end and the same high-end. Basically, you lose with no gain, compared to proper 6-ports. Pineapple 6-ports are better than either. The TB mod bascially means a horrible warm-up period, injured driveability, and the TB probably isn't a restriction in your engine anyway. I'd love to see dyno figures on it, however. I've driven cars with it done and as far as I could tell the only difference was that it ran like crap cold. I think it would matter more on a Turbo that might actually be expereincing some restriction in the TB. I wish I had a dyno, it would be cool to get real figure on all of this stuff (TB mod, 6-ports, e-fans, pulleys, etc). |
