Thermowax
Yeah, so I read here that the thermowax does not have anything to do with the 3k warm-up. I removed it and now there is no 3k warm-up. Is it true that thermowax has nothing to do with it? If that is true, then damn I have something else wrong. Also, is there any substitute for the thermowax, aside from the brick or, as I am using now, a raquet. :D . Is there anyone that has a link or is able to tell me everything that affects idle including sensors? Thanks in advance.

It has everything to do with it. You read wrong.
That's right. The thermowax causes the fast idle cam to rotate and create the high idle. Without it no fast idle.
wtf i just did the tb mod, pulled of the thermowax and it still does the accelerated warmup only it doesnt hold at 2k until warm just drops back after a few secs
There are more than one thing that does the fast idle though. The Cold Start Assist stuff also does that I think. YOu might want to take it off also.
the 3k asssisted warm up has nothing to do with the thermowax and 1500 rpm cold idle.
cold startup is long gone maye its the bac thats still on there

The thermowax is a purely mechanical device that opens the primary thorttle a tiny bit to increase idle speed to 900-1000rpm until the coolant warms up. The 3000rpm warm-up is triggered by the ECU, which opens both the AWS solenoid valve and the BAC valve. |
Ok I guess I can't edit my earlier post but I was wrong. I didn't do it on purpose I just didn't remember that it was the AWS and BAC through the ECU that did the 3k warm up. My bad.
Santiago PS- If any mod sees this can you please delete the incorrect post. Thanks! |
god I hate the BAC
so take it off :)
and destroy it :ar:

How does It differ with the s5? I didn't know their was a difference within series.
They don't have a radiator temp switch.

The thermowax is not controlled in any way by the ECU, but if you remove it then a bit less air than normal will be passing through the TB when you first start the engine. So instead of 3000rpm you get a slightly lower rpm.
The Accelerated Warm-up System is still only being triggered by the ECU, which uses the BAC valve and AWS solenoid to get the really high idle. |
so the bac tells the ecu the engine is warm?
Thanks...good to know. Admittingly, I don't find myself viewing to many s5 EB's.
Coincidently, I bought this sensor brand new last summer, along with every other Water sensor. I've since ditched It when I Installed my Koyo Radiator. |

im so cunfused. oh well. ill just thank mazda that it works and not wory about all the nity grity EMS junk
better hope you don't want a standalone EMS later on then :)

Originally posted by NZConvertible On the contrary, you should do whatever you can to stop it. The AWS system is used to rapidly heat up the precat for emissions reasons, but I'd hate to think of the engine damage done in the first 10 seconds of running a stone cold engine at 3000rpm immediately after start. :( |
i gues i could just start in gear all the time......
Pull the AWS solenoid, leave the BAC in place.
ah thanks:;
