Thermostat question....

well since i been running without one and im gonna buy an OEM i was wondering if this would be ok to use for about a week

its a stant Superstat, its not specifically for the RX-7, its a 160º but it is the same size as the 180º version they had for it, 54mm, will this work ok for about a week or so??

Agent_D 08-25-02 09:04 PM

well, i just started it and let it idle for about 10-20 mins, never even got to 1/4 on the guage, now to go drive it and see how it turns out.

i also found my idle problem that i thought was a result of my TB port job, i left a vac hose off lolol

Should be OK, IMHO. I've never really bought into the OEM being so much better than aftermarket gig.

hehe, yea me too, i only buy into certain OEM things that are proven better

drove it around some more, seems to be great, stays right below 1/4 guage, ill find out how it work tomorrow, it wsa only like 50 degrees tonight, so ill test it out int he heat of the day, and redline it a couple times and see what hpapens

The lower the better that just means that it opens at 160 instead of 180 it is seen as a mod to use those

Trivia question of the day: Do you know why? I do, and I know Agent D does, because I explained it to him.

Oh yes, I would love to hear this explanation, too. :D

BTW, the OEM thermostat IS better than most of the aftermarket thermostats. The main problem with the aftermarket thermostats is that they seem to fail after a few months, causing violent pulsating in the upper heater hose. I have seen some which were only single stage, and others without jiggle pins. I suppose that there may be some good aftermarket thermostats out there, but I have yet to see them, and I don't think it's worth saving $10 on the thermostat to risk frying your $2,000+ engine.

well drove it around today in 95 degree weather, stop and go traffic driving for about an hour, never got to 1/4 on the guage, but stayed just below it :)

The other reason for NOT using the aftermarket thermostats is the fact the OEM Mazda ones open a whole lot faster.&nbsp The rotary engine heats up very quickly.&nbsp The aftermarket 160degree one might start to open faster, but the stock 190degree OEM Mazda one will beat to full open most of the time.
